Please humor me ...
Do you even OWN some type of 914 repair manual, be it factory, Bendix, Clymer, Haynes, or WHATEVER?

First thing I did when I bought my 914 was to order a Haynes manual. When I have a problem, first thing I do is go the the internet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The tech articles on PP and this site usually have the answer to any question. I find the Haynes manual very confusing. To find how to repair a small item, you need to read through all of the text of a much larger project. Half the time you can't find what you looking for in the index.

Luckily all of us "dimwits" have the internet and don't have to rely solely on a manual (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Loooks like an older version of the Haynes manual, or ? I MUST HAVE THIS!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) It will nicely compliment the 2 Haynes (one 'nice' and one dirty, marked up), the 2 Clymer (one green cover, one orange cover) and the 2 914 tech reference (blue skinny ones), and a bunch of Bosch FI manuals (4). BTW the exploded parts diagram (knock off) by DerWhite is pretty much worthless!!!

There are things that are not covered in those manuals (ignition switch disassembly, for example). Maybe in the factory manual set, but I don't own that.

Those exploded parts diagrams are the best (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)
It's totally 3-D in white space, as if each assembly was laid out by itself. All the parts are numbered...but never have a description of exactly what the part is called. WHO has or what is the name of the list that has the key to what all the numers mean exactly in the exploded parts manual? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Is that "914 Restorer's guide" book any good?

Porsche will, I think, sell you a CD with a Windows program that shows the exploded diagrams (well, approximations of them) and lists the "official" names and part numbers of the parts. The names often don't match what we call them. Versions of this software have been available elsewhere in the past (search on "PET").

The "Restorer's Guide" by Brett Johnson is good, but not great. It's definitely not a repair or resto manual; more like a very detailed description of the cars. It details running year-to-year changes, color and material options, etc. It is not the last word, though, as lots of stuff happened to 914s that was not "supposed to". (E.g., 73 gauges in 74 cars, etc.) There are at least two editions that I know of; I didn't see a whole lot of difference between them but I did not take the time to look carefully.

Why would you think that what you're saying wouldn't offend ANYBODY? Next time, I hope it'll give you reason to pause. Leave "bad moods" at the door, unless you warn everybody first.

Friends? Never was your enemy ... only got upset with your disrespectful attitude, that's all.

Next time, don't feel compelled to respond to each-and-every thread on this forum, it's just not necessary.

Funny thing
Back in 1996 when I was on my first U.S. tour
I saw for the first time a 914 and was fascinated so I bought the Haynes and was even more surprised from the qualities it has.
It took 3 years before I had the opportunity to buy one in Israel by that time I was pretty much knowledgeable about the 914.
Yes I recommend!

There are things you learn once you have a teener that are not in a manual. For instance, I was changing the fuel lines on my '70 project and found that the lines from front to rear are all plastic. I always thought they had metal ends where they came thru the body.

Also, the lines through the firewall (bolth ends) have seperate rubber gaskets...not one like I am used to.

Are we having fun now?

I have the Haynes, the BOSCH fuel injection book and all of the 914 repair manuals and even some L-Jet info and have access to a D-Jet tester.

I learn by doing, I always have. And when I mess up, I fix it and learn how it really goes.

Like brakes, it was easy. But i messed it all up and learned how to do it right.

Haynes is good thing to have though, but honestly whenever I was in big trouble on the road, intuition and knowledge (learned from here and from my experiences) got me through the problem.

But for the newer owners of 914s Haynes is a good resource.

Except for valve adjustments (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

They're easy (after you remove the gas tank, inspection plates, seats, shifter assembly, 3rd seat). I only changed one as I moved the CIS pump to the front and it runs 70 psi.

And with a good tubing bender you can make a 90 at the firewall without kinking the tube.

Ok, Rouser, I give up. I tried to end this over email and on the club, but your just to big of a DICK to accept my "sorry's". Cut the shit about me being disrespectful to you. You dont DESERVE any respect. YOU ARE A COMPLETE JERK. If you didn't tell me you were old, I would have thought you were one of my classmates. And about threatening to say something to the admin about me, WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO PUNISH ME FOR? Getting into an argument with a jerk who thinks he deserves respect from everyone??? For stating my opinion and get smashed about it?? It really hurts that you "blocked" me from your email and on the club. You really do act like a mature adult. This is the last I have to say to you. I feel sorry for all of your friends. Sorry, I forget you didn't have any.

Please, SPARE ME your veiled attempts to "apologize" for your childish, immature antics on a thread you DID NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN! I didn't realize I was dealing with a 15-year-old child, and for THAT I apologize for treating you AS AN ADULT, and responding IN-KIND.

You wanna make jokes? Make ABSOLUTELY SURE you know WHO you're dealing with, and be prepared to be verbally smacked about when you become irregular or disrespectful; I'm not going there with you.

Your "sorrys" are accepted with the intent I believe they were given, in-spite of your desire to "get in the last jab." Hey "Rouser" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I dont know what got you into such a bad mood. All I was trying to do was state my point. I never called YOU any names like you did me...you called me a whole list of them, and then never stoped. If I did something to make you mad, I AM SORRY. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) So it was about the smilies?? (you mean these (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/finger.gif) ??) The first time I used the "finger" was just a joke.. The other one "?/WTF" was the only smiliey I could find to act like I had no idea what you were talking about. I dont know how you took the stuff I said and turned it around so negative, but if it makes you feel better, I AM SORRY, and that the last I am going to say to you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yawn.gif)

This is where you want to show yourself off, FINE. I've never dealt with such an impertinent child such as yourself, and I raised four (4) sons! You don't take "NO" for an answer, and your STILL pre-pubescent in the way you interact with adults.

With THAT, steer clear of me, and I'll avoid you AT ALL COSTS.
