With the car running and the outside looking done, it was time to turn attention to the inside. I made an 8" subwoofer enclosure out of the passenger foot rest foam chunk. I wanted something that would not intrude on passenger space and this seemed like a logical location. The end result is barely seen if you don't look for it, in fact you can't even see it when in the drivers seat.

First I added urethane foam to the area that I wanted to house the driver and after it set I shaped it to fit the 8" driver and achieve the look I wanted. Once it looked like what I wanted, I glassed it up and then hogged out all the foam to leave a fiberglass enclosure that perfectly replaces the original foam piece.

Here's the enclosure after gassing and removing the foam. Before glassing I carved a 1/2" recessed area in the front section to create a flange to flush mount a piece of 1/2" MDF for an acess panel.

Couple more. The stereo is a Kenwood Sirius unit. The front speakers are Polk 6.5" and there are 1 1/4" Polk tweeters in tne rear pillars (where the useless coat hooks used to be). The Sub is driven by a 200 watt amp installed where the glove box used to be. Getty dash, GT classic seats in leather with heaters, Aamco console (from Grasshopper..thx) trimmed to fit around a Rennshift. I still need to figure something out for the firewall, but for now it's running well and even has tunes..... (Beastie Boys and Tool tested!)

Aaron, The dash face material is WilsonArt countertop laminate. It's called "brushed stainless". I could've easily done real brushed stainless or aluminum, but this seemed a better solution (no finger prints, no scratching, no cleaning). I've heard some folks crap on the idea of the laminate, but it makes sense.

I ordered a sheet through Home Depot ( in honor of Trekor!).

Nice fit and finish! I think I'll have to look into that Getty dash -- though I also like the way Jim Wolcott set up his stock 3 gauge dash in the October 2006 issue of Excellence.

How long had you been planning that interior out?

I hate to admit it, but it really wasn't planned at all. I've been kinda making it up as I go. The subwoofer was an idea I've had for a couple years and was just waiting to get the car in a position where it needed it. I've had a sub in the center console and one in the passenger floor (where it was in the way of the passengers feet) and they both worked OK, but this seemed the best place to stuff one out of the way.

Paul, No bass port.....sealed enclosure. The driver was designed for a sealed enclosure and the cubic ft of the box. It sounds pretty damned good, but I think it needs to be dialed in a bit.

That interior is freaking awesome. My car is now suffering from envy.. as well as oil leaks, new carb install (not tuned yet), bad paint, etc etc etc....

Seats are Rallye ST. They are not a direct bolt in and the backpad will not work with these, but they are really nice. I made the mistake of sitting in one and then just had to have them. I used the stock seat rails and maintained adjustability, but had to do a little welding to make it work. If anyone is using these seats and needs details let me know?

How did you fasten the fiberglass speaker enclosure to the floor pan?
