With the car running and the outside looking done, it was time to turn attention to the inside. I made an 8" subwoofer enclosure out of the passenger foot rest foam chunk. I wanted something that would not intrude on passenger space and this seemed like a logical location. The end result is barely seen if you don't look for it, in fact you can't even see it when in the drivers seat.

First I added urethane foam to the area that I wanted to house the driver and after it set I shaped it to fit the 8" driver and achieve the look I wanted. Once it looked like what I wanted, I glassed it up and then hogged out all the foam to leave a fiberglass enclosure that perfectly replaces the original foam piece.

Here's the roughed foam plug:

Here's the enclosure after gassing and removing the foam. Before glassing I carved a 1/2" recessed area in the front section to create a flange to flush mount a piece of 1/2" MDF for an acess panel.

I covered the area that will protrude thru the carpet with black pleather to match the interior and the mounted the driver.

Here's the finished product installed. I still need to dress some wires, but it's in and working.

Couple more. The stereo is a Kenwood Sirius unit. The front speakers are Polk 6.5" and there are 1 1/4" Polk tweeters in tne rear pillars (where the useless coat hooks used to be). The Sub is driven by a 200 watt amp installed where the glove box used to be. Getty dash, GT classic seats in leather with heaters, Aamco console (from Grasshopper..thx) trimmed to fit around a Rennshift. I still need to figure something out for the firewall, but for now it's running well and even has tunes..... (Beastie Boys and Tool tested!)

Aaron, The dash face material is WilsonArt countertop laminate. It's called "brushed stainless". I could've easily done real brushed stainless or aluminum, but this seemed a better solution (no finger prints, no scratching, no cleaning). I've heard some folks crap on the idea of the laminate, but it makes sense.

I ordered a sheet through Home Depot ( in honor of Trekor!).

Nice fit and finish! I think I'll have to look into that Getty dash -- though I also like the way Jim Wolcott set up his stock 3 gauge dash in the October 2006 issue of Excellence.

How long had you been planning that interior out?
East coaster
I hate to admit it, but it really wasn't planned at all. I've been kinda making it up as I go. The subwoofer was an idea I've had for a couple years and was just waiting to get the car in a position where it needed it. I've had a sub in the center console and one in the passenger floor (where it was in the way of the passengers feet) and they both worked OK, but this seemed the best place to stuff one out of the way.

Very nice job. I didn't see where you put the bass port?

NICE!!! I LIKE IT ALOTTTT! clap56.gif
grasshopper
NICE! You made that center console look AWSOME!
East coaster
Paul, No bass port.....sealed enclosure. The driver was designed for a sealed enclosure and the cubic ft of the box. It sounds pretty damned good, but I think it needs to be dialed in a bit.

That interior is freaking awesome. My car is now suffering from envy.. as well as oil leaks, new carb install (not tuned yet), bad paint, etc etc etc....

NICE!!

Very nice ! Are those Lemans seats ?
Trekkor

Nice fab work.

Seats are Rallye ST. They are not a direct bolt in and the backpad will not work with these, but they are really nice. I made the mistake of sitting in one and then just had to have them. I used the stock seat rails and maintained adjustability, but had to do a little welding to make it work. If anyone is using these seats and needs details let me know?

Nice work, Eastcoaster! Your projects are always interesting. smilie_pokal.gif

How did you fasten the fiberglass speaker enclosure to the floor pan?

Also, where did the pedals and dead pedal come from?
wilchek
my box is almost the same but i put it in the center. I used an 8" JBL sub. Once I cover it with the floor math it is totally stealth. I just wrapped my foam foot rest in plastic and then laid fibergalss over that. Fits somewhat tight but is fine.

Some good other ideas:

Mike, The subwoofer enclosure just takes the place of the stock foam footrest piece. Since it's actually molded from one, it fits in without any type of fasteners just like the stock piece.

My pedals are from "Ultimate Pedals". The dead pedal isn't mounted yet in the pictures. I noticed after seeing the pics that the dead pedal looks all crooked and I didn't want anyone to think this is how it fits. I mounted it yesterday and it fits well. The pedals are of good quality and include rubber pad inserts for the holes. I didn't put the rubber pads on, but wanted to have them in case the pedals were slippery. I never had metal pedals before and didn't realize how well the gripped. I was worried about wet shoes and it doesn't seem like a problem so I never put the pads on.

I used to have a sub like "Wilchek" posted and it worked great, but it seemed to freak people out when they sat in the passenger seat. I had a very strong grill over it and told them they could put their feet on it without harm, but ......

Very nice and clean looking smile.gif

Are you going to make it to the ECC this year? It would be cool to see you rride up close drooley.gif

Cheers
East coaster
Kerry, Can you PM me the details on ECC? I read the thread and still can't figure out where it's being held other than N. Virginia. That's should be about a 4 hr drive for me and if I can get enough wheel time to have confidence in the car by then......I'd like to attend!!
