You *really* want to make sure you cover your front end and WS. My new WS got a slew of chips on the way back from Portland. Primarily from half finished road construction in...

AA, it may look a bit tacky, but consider a swatch of rubber set carpet or floor mat material attached to the back bumper of the truck. You've seen them on motor homes when they tow. Problem is high truck and low towed load. Scatters crap all over the car.

Masking is still good, but it won't stop the big'uns.
