I remember that being linked to from the DGI.NET 914 club page long ago... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Some of the questions are tricky... Did you want explanations about the answers or something? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

(In several cases, the explanation was "Not on the Sixes!")

Here are some of the trivia questions I put together for the SEC a few weeks ago.

-How did porsche change the temperature guage from the 911 when putting it in the 914-6?
-What was the OTHER mid engine VW-Porsche (passenger) car collaboration?
-What was the OTHER OTHER mid-engined VW-Porsche (racing) car collaboration?
-What products were also designed by the designer of the original 914 shape?
-How did Corvette designer ZoraArkus-Duntov use a 914 for General Motors?

Wow, Scott--those are some pretty good (tough) ones!

For the 2nd question, do one-off cars count?

Ok. A-aron, you and Sir Andy prolly know the answers.

I recall now the 912 engine designation, but why did that come up here? Did I miss something again? 917, uh, where was that engine? hmmmm...?

I have some vague idea about #1, but I'm not certain myself. I'd have to look at some sources to tell, and that's kinda cheating. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

We've already dropped a big hint about #2--it's a one-off car.

I'm not sure about #3, though if "badge engineering" is counted, I know of at least one.

#4 has lots of answers, depending on who you count as the designer of the original 914 shape. There is considerable debate about exactly who did that.

The answer to #5 has been posted on this BBS, but it was a couple of years ago or more. The phrase "Rorty little runner" was applied to the particular experiment. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Sorry to leave this post hanging-
All this came from "Excellence was Expected"

-How did Porsche change the temperature guage from the 911 when putting it in the 914-6?
A: Raised red zone 10 degrees to "compensate" for hotter running.

-What was the OTHER mid engine VW-Porsche (passenger) car collaboration?
A: EA 266, Designed by Porsche in 1968 for VW to sell above the Beetle. It was a never produced two door sedan with an inline water-cooled four cylinder under the rear seat (as part of an abandoned plan to make all VWs mid/rear-engined).

-What was the OTHER OTHER mid-engined VW-Porsche (racing) car collaboration?
The 917. What? Yes, VW paid 2/3 of the overall cost of the 917 development.

-What products were also designed by the designer of the original 914 shape?
A: Gugelot proposed the selected body shape. They also designed
Sewing Machines for Pfaff, slide projectors for Kodak, and small appliances for Braun.

-How did Corvette designer ZoraArkus-Duntov use a 914 for General Motors?
A: He was part of the team that designed built a 914 based, Pininfarina bodied, rotary engined concept from 1971 to 1973.
