Gonna put together some lights for a little project. Just wondering if the cibies are really that good or is it more of a nostalgia thing?

I have a few sets and I am happy with the light they produce. I'm just wondering if there are better lights is all.

cibie oscars and super oscars were used on some GT cars....

more of a nostalgia thing... if you wanted uber peformance, you would use hlla rallye 4000's or some PIAA HID's

What's turboman's name? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Well... Dude, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It depends on what you're talking about. The GT look lights? -or- The Cibie H4 lights for your stock light location?

GT Look. Cool for period correct GT look. Lots-o-light but you'll need to do some alternator tech to keep them a-blaze. Extremely gay on black cars with whacky rear fender flares etc... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

H4 lights can be a real boon for your teener but... now looking at your car, that's probably not what you're looking for.

Maybe shoot for some CCLISELLPILOTDRIVINGLIGHTS. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

The Cibie's used on the GT's are not actually Oscars or SuperOscars...they are actually Pallas...commonly known as the Porsche Hood Mounted Cibies. This variety is FAR more expensive than a set of common Oscars. A good set of the hood versions go for about $1000. On the GT's they were mounted on the hood and also had their backs cut off to mount inside the bumper.

The Marathon cars also had Cibie 45's mounted on brackets outside the front bumper...very flat looking and not terribly expensive, but, try finding a bracket to mount them.

So, in general the Cibie's represent more of a cool or authenticity factor and the more modern ones or Hellas are just as good.

I have both Cibie's and Hella's and prefer the Cibie's much better. I think they have a better reflector and they refract the light better with a higher quality lens. I am really dissapointed with my Hella's. Eddy

Are you a swim instructor?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Friends Class 14 (unlimited pre-runner, leaf spring rear) is running 10 of them. Should be damn near daylight.

No problem on the ride. I've made a few changes since moab, and haven't had it tuned, but it's fun. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)
