Engine swaps, Rotary Mazda 20B triple rotor engine.
I have come across a possible engine for a project 914, a triple rotor twin turbo Mazda Cosmo engine. Also known as the 20B, 280-300HP stock. I know that it is 7” longer then the 2 rotor engine 12A 0r 13A/B, I just don’t know how long those engine are compared to a 4cyl or 6cyl flat engine. But I don’t know how much more it weigh’s either, or if it is lighter then a 4cyl 2.5 STI Subaru or 6cyl Porsche 3.2li engine? There are a few 1/4mile race shops where we keep our 914’s and two of them specialize in Rotary engines, 13A/B 1.3li 700-800Hp - 7sec 1/4mile cars. Not bad, Questions how difficult is it to adapt a 20B engine to a 915 trans? Also any cooling issue since I hear that the Mazda engines run hot, would this one run hotter with one extra rotor? Has this been attempted by any 914 club members? Should I stay with the Subaru conversion? Any positive feed back would be greatly appreciated.
