i looked at my hood the other day and had thoughts of putting a crest on it. i don't want to start the debate about NARP, i'd like pix of crests and the dimensions/distances from the edge of the hood to the badge (bottom/top/center, just specify)

remember so I went out and measured it. Sorry no pic of mine so heres a

Souldn't be there, that's why. Ferrari didn't badge the Dino for the same reason - a bastard child (Fiat in thier case - VW is ours). Never put on anything other than VERY special 914's by the Factory.

Why punch holes in your hood for something that shouldn't/wouldn't have been there? It says Porsche on the back - isn't that enough?

Has any one ever put a vw circle badge on the hood? I think it would look cool and not be any more out of place than the porsche crest.

DON'T DRILL OUT YOUR HOOD.
Go down to your local autoparts store and buy some emblem adhesive (2 sided) foam tape. I did this on my car several years ago and it hasn't come off yet, even with -40* temeratures in winter storage and + 40* temps in the summer.
There is a reason that the industry uses it so much now...it works really good!!

GREAT IDEA! I've been holding off on putting a badge on mine purely because I didn't want to drill out the hood..

What size of badge should I look for to make it the "proper" size?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/boldblue.gif) YEAH.. I can't wait to get this done!

I lined mine up with the top of the inner edge of the eyebrows. It seemed to be the only place wher it looked right.

I 100% agree - tape it on.

Jim,
Your 914 is distinctive. It doesn't need a badge to proclaim its identity. The design speaks volumes for its heritage.

Are these cars lacking 'cause there is no crest on the hood......

Yes! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)
I like the extra jewel on the front of any Porsche. If I had a 908 I would tape a badge on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Honestly,

I think the location is dictated by the location of the underhood reinforcement.

If you try to mount it close to the front edge, you have to not only drill the hood but you have to drill two larger holes in the inner hood reinforcement to attach the speed nuts.

Lazy man says, move it up so you avoid the reinforced boxed area and...

Voila, you are at the location where 90% of the people place theirs.
