Hi all...

I'm new to this forum, and I'm sitting here on Christmas Day at my inlaws with nothing to do, so I started browsing around. Very nice.....

I thought I would post up some information and pictures of our trip up to Newfoundland Canada to run in the Targa Newfoundland road rally race. Any of you know about it? It's probably one of the coolest races you'll ever do. I've done club racing, autocrosses, I'm a PCA National Instructor, but nothing compares to this.

Since my wife and I run a highly modified 914/6 on the track, it was only natural that we build a 914 for Targa. 2006 was my first year as a driver (the previous 2 I had navigated for another drive in his 911's), and Nadine's first year competing at all as navigator. We had a blast. I'm hoping the Panorama will finally publish my article in Feb or March, so you can get a better feel for what it was all about.

So, there we were with the first 914 ever entered into Targa Newfoundland. We nicknamed the car Huey. Can anyone guess why? it's a stretch, but I'll let a few people guess before I answer it.

Here are a few pictures of us at Targa with Huey....

If you are interested in the event, the car, or anything else, please contact me. We would love to see more 914's up there...maybe a full team of us?

I can be reached at naro@carolina.rr.com

More Pictures....

I have a lot more on my company website Exclusive Motors, Inc. Go to News & Notes, and click on the article for " Sept 19, 2006 - Both Exclusive Motors teams...."

I'm planning to get my race team site up after the holidays - NaroEscape Motorsports.

Ah, forgot to give details on Huey...

1971 914 converted to 2.2 liter 6 (for now) by Black Forest Racing. GT Flares added, and paint job done by Autobahn Collision. Running a modified/reduced gear 901 gear box (that needs more mods before next year), 3.2 Carrera suspension and brakes, big Weltmeister sway bars front and rear (not home right now to know the exact specs). So it's not REALLY. REALLY set up, just mildly set. It's still street legal (has to be for Targa).

Oh, and we ran Continental Sport Contact 2 tires for Targa (Continental sponsored us) and they did great. Especially in the Hurricane we ran through on Wednesday....

I just saw some footage of the race on Dream Car Garage. They showed a 911 that lost it big time. Some of the roads were narrow and rough but it looked like a blast to drive.

Bet it was fun. I'd do it.

I was watching that too. Boy that 911 took a hard nose dive off that dip didn't it!
Looked like an RSR but not sure

You almost had company. A pair of guys from Toronto were negotiating with me for the Bumblebee Racer to run Targa Newfoundland. Shipping costs made the deal fall down.

Yeah....if it was the orange Continental sponsored 911 RSR Clone you saw, I was in that car last year. Casey Holzman was the owner/driver, I was the navigator. That happened Day 1, and really screwed up our week..... We were fine, but the car was totaled....3.4 liter RSR weighing about 2200 lbs. It WAS really fast.

That is a VERY sweet car. Yeah, shipping is really expensive, but there are a few guys that come from CA.

Were you talking to Glenn Clark and Evan Gamblin with their 911? If so, they won the whole thing this year.

The one name sounds familiar. They used Ebay ID when emailing. I think they had a timeline and when the shipping company screwed up and sent a shipping bid to send it to Niagra Falls area instead of Toronto they had to move in another direction.
