the license plate of this Mercedes looks italien to me

AP stands for Ascoli Piceno - thats a small district at the adriatic coast

so that could be a city somewhere there ...

I doubt its France, or Portugal. None of the current license plate designs in those countries are plain white, they all seem to have the EU ring of stars...

http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/

Actually. Could be Italy. I don't know if that Merc. could be a 99, (appears to be the last year they issued those plates) but the car in front of it might have the blue bars on either side of the plate.

I'm going to have to go with Gustl....

Yup . . . Gustl's right, the car was in front of the Hotel Eden in Sorrento Italy. The water is almost right across the street.

Confirmed. It is Dublin. Whew, that was a tough one to solve. The red door on the church nailed it.

edit: Specifically, St. Anne's Church on Ann Street South.

Well, first thing I did was to look at the pay phones. There are web sites that show pictures of pay phones from around the world. Unfortunately that didn't help much. I noticed some signs had some english in them, none were useful though. Then I tried looking up gothic churches and cathedrals of which there were far too many. Then I noticed the door on the church was red. I did a search for red door church and I ended up at photo album web sites of peoples' vacations. Sure enough I found a few of that church. One of them was sharp enough to make out the St. Anne's Church sign on the front.
