i think clayton has nailed it. my 2.0 with 40s does/did the same thing after shutting down on HOT days. rather than holding the pedal down, i give it a few pumps, crank it and feather the thottle til the cooler fuel gets to the carb. minor annoyance. installing the stock phenolic gaskets under the intakes seemed to have lessoned the issue. i thought it was a fuel density issue as the gas gets hot. the fuel lines in the engine compartment get pretty hot too. prob only compounds the problem.

I may be the worst mechanic on this board so take it for what it's worth....

But my 72 had fuel injection and mechanical points, and would do just what you've discribed in warm weather or after sitting in slow traffic. It would start cold every time, but I couldn't just shut it off and start it right back up every time.... But.... I could some time. I finally figured out it was all about the condition of my points. If they were perfectly adjusted I could hot start, but not if they were at all worn. I lived in the dry desert of Eastern Washington at the time and during the summer the temperature is typically in the 90s-100s for all of August. I would adjust my points weekly and it never let me down. Maybe that was all the tricks I new, but it seemed to work at the time. My 74 has electronic ignition and always starts hot. She's got carbs so she doesn't like to start cold; but she got warmed up yesterdayfor the first time in a month !!!

Baby... I love's that car!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif)

no I haven't given Chris a call. I'm going to try the starting suggestions here and try and cap off some holes in my tin/heater and see if the problem is still there... plus the carbs were rebuilt in the recent past. If I can't get it figured out myself then I'll definitely give him a call. He's a cool guy and I'm glad you led me to him.

Clayton, I haven't touched my car in a couple days. I'm so busy lately I haven't had any time. I'll keep you's updated........
