Paul F. You can usually get the old radios remanufactured if you send it to the factory. As you did not mention the make of the radio, do a little reasearch online searching for the brand name. Stay with the original and get it working right. You won't get great sound in a 914 regardless of what you do but a '70's Blaupunkt am-fm can sound as good as a modern radio.

Here is the post from Ron S (not MikeZ - D'oh!) about radio refurb.
QUOTE(Ron S) I gota Becker Gran Prix, found it in an old Mercedes in a junkyard and got it for about. 10 bucks. It even had an integral amp. It does have AM/FM/LW/SW bands on it.And signal seek. I sent it to Becker North America up in NJ,and had them refurb it.The cost was only about $200.00. The sound quality is amazing for such an old radio. It really is top of the line for it's day.Still is. As for the LW/SW,I remember back in April of 2003,When the Army went into Iraq. I tuned into some English speaking station in the netherlands, and listened for several hours of America-bashing from a bunch of euro wooossies.Seems every caller to the program had an axe to grind with us.What a bunch of ungrateful people.Next time they come crawling to us asking for our help we oughta tell'em to take it outa their welfare budgets. Anyway,it looks period correct, and sounds great to boot. Ron |

Anyway, for the Blaupundt, try contacting the factoy about a factory refurb instea of going through a reseller. The factory probably has a cache of unused NOS parts.

Seriously, who listens to the radio in a 914? If it's your daily driver, I can understand it. But, if you drive on the weekends, why not enjoy the sounds & smells of the 914. They aren't as great as my early 911 sounds, but they'll do.
I have to listen to forced office "music" all week - Porsche sounds on the weekend. Particularly fond of the "rev forever arrogance" of an early 911 motor. Radio? Nah. |

That hat came free with my 2003 cobra convertable. When did Porsche ever give us anything? The Chicago Marathon hat under it didn't come so easy. |
