I have what appears to be the original,dealer installed, radio in my 73 2.0 ....Reception on both am and fm is to say the least lousy would like to keep the radio as it looks period.....anyone had this problem and solved it short of throwing the radio out?

You can usually get the old radios remanufactured if you send it to the factory. As you did not mention the make of the radio, do a little reasearch online searching for the brand name.

Blaupunkt will remanufacture for a smallish fee. From what I heard, you get back a basically new radio. I think MikeZ had this done (somene here did).

Stay with the original and get it working right. You won't get great sound in a 914 regardless of what you do but a '70's Blaupunkt am-fm can sound as good as a modern radio.
Contacted Mid-West Electronics they are a Blaupunkt repair and sales ....They said that they probably couldn't repair the radio but to send it in and they would take a look.....Anyone have another contact?

Anyway, for the Blaupundt, try contacting the factoy about a factory refurb instea of going through a reseller. The factory probably has a cache of unused NOS parts.

Seriously, who listens to the radio in a 914? If it's your daily driver, I can understand it. But, if you drive on the weekends, why not enjoy the sounds & smells of the 914. They aren't as great as my early 911 sounds, but they'll do.
I have to listen to forced office "music" all week - Porsche sounds on the weekend. Particularly fond of the "rev forever arrogance" of an early 911 motor. Radio? Nah.

Called Wilford Wilkes he told me that at best the early Blaupunkt and most early am fm radios were marginal in their ability to hold a station but he could try to "align" the radio no guarantees helps sometimes and the cost would be about $125 to $150.Seems like a pretty straight guy
