Has anyone done research in comparing a v8 914, with a cobra?
They both are around 2500lbs, close to 50/50 weight, and 425hp... Those are pretty impressive numbers for any car. After looking at some cobra pics I think I would take a 914-v8 b/c the cobra is a full out race car with not much else besides a few gauges and a trunk. Not to mention most of them are kit cars with undone details. btw: is anyone selling a 914-v8 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Good luck in finding insurance on a cobra kit car.
What was the stats on the cobras? 0-100-0 in 13 seconds flat. Cornering or track times, I dunno. |

My classic car insurance ran $241 this year, (but 2500 mi limit.)
Cobra replica handles OK on a track, but not an autocross type car. (I haven't got my 914 running yet, so no real comparison.) Longer wheelbase and heavier steering - more like 2700# on an Arntz/Butler frame. I'm hoping the 914 will be lighter and handle better - plus, a little easier to get parts when things break. Well according to:
http://www.erareplicas.com/427/specs.htm This is the cobra w/a 427, hp to weight ~ 6:1 -60 mph 4.5 sec 0-100 mph 11.5 sec Standing 1/4 mile 13 sec/110 mph (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) no traction? Fuel consumption: 8-12 mpg Track testing with stock BF Goodrich Comp TA's has given nearly 1G lateral acceleration and .95G braking performance. In December, 1991, Car and Driver measured 1.05G (lateral) using Hoosier tires. Optional Spax dampers are externally adjustable for both height and damping, allow ing the builder to modify the E.R.A. 427SC's ride and handling characteristics to fit personal preference. |
