Section III, paragraph L In cases where entire engines and associated engine components are replaced with a stock engine of higher horsepower, and no modifications are made to this engine, entrants may take the following points instead of items (f) through (k) Under this rule I was told (by the same steward) that a 3.2 six installed into a 1.7 car takes points solely on power increase. Have you ever heard of a car with VIN 47xxx come from the factory with a six cylinder car? For that matter, I don't believe the 3.2 six was available until after 914 production ceased. If a 3.2 six is allowed, a Type 4 from any year should be allowed. Section V MODEL RANGES Update/Backdate - Major assemblies such as engines, brakes, suspension or transmissions may be substituted with parts from the same series car. Model ranges are defined in the chart below. Cars that are updated or backdated shall have all major assemblies updated and changed as a whole, or take the appropriate modification points. In order to be eligible for this provision of the rules, the car as modified must be functionally identical (mechanically, physically and aerodynamically) with the model to which it has been updated or backdated. Under those circumstances, the car is eligible to run in the same class as the model to which it has been modified to match. A '72 and a 2.0 and you're 'CS' or 'CSS' instead of 'Ax' The case and heads are 1.8L so I'm going to classify it as a 1.8L with displacement increase and run in AP. I think I was originally lead to believe that is was based on the year of the car. When what is more important is the Series classification that the model is in. http://zone8.pca.org/rules/2007/RuleClarifications2007.pdf |

What are my options for rebuild kits out there? My Type 4 Store offers the only engine rebuild kits readily available for these engines. They are not cheap but they do include EVERYTHING, including brand new heads. What is the RAT part # on the camshaft that you have?? Do you have pics of the cam or the box it came in? I can tell you if it was mine or a fake. |

Hmm, maybe I should just look for a strong running 2056 that is already built? But, they seem hard to find.

The cam will be ependant upon your means of induction, exhaust and operating elevation. We choose this based on these specs for each kit. Yes, good running engines don't get sold very often. Those who buy our engines and kits don't sell them most of the time- they purchase them because they want to keep their car for a long time, have reliable long living performance and plenty of power... |
