After reading Redshifts post about his cables, I thought a list of tools needed and recommended while owning and maintaining a 914 would be a good idea....

Maybe once the thread is dead, we can add the list to a FAQ (which most lazy @ss people don't read or look for, LOL)


jack (aluminum optional)
jack stands (one pair minimum, or if you are like me, you need at least 3 pair......4 jacks for your 914 and the other 2 for your "running" cars)
Metric tool set (sockets, wrench set)
3# sledge hammer BFH optional (IMHO, a claw or woodworker type hammer should never be used near a car)
small inspection mirror
small bright flashlight
triple square drive set(for CV joints)
Metric allen wrench set(shifter assembly, front suspension skid protectors.....)
torque wrench(1/4" drive In-Lb, 3/8" and 1/2" Ft-Lb)

May want to have:

wire cutters
crimpers
an assortment of connectors (male, female, etc.)
multimeter (either an automotive one that has dwell or a standard one)

How about a lap top and a wireless net connection in the garage. And a d-camera to up load pics to this site when you have a question.

I found I needed FLARE WRENCHES to do my brake work.... The PIPE WRENCH came in handy a couple of times...
