I got to wondering if there is a relatively easy way to tell if I have T cams or E cams in my 914/6. The part numbers are different (T == 901.105.133.01, E == 901.105.181.00). If I was to remove a valve cover would I be able to see a part number if I rotated the crank? I have no particular reason to believe I have an E cam. I am just curious.

Thanks,

you can't see the part # with the cam installed in the engine (as I recall), but should be be able to tell by valve lift. make a quickie depth gauge to measure lift at tdo. A T cam is ~1mm, vs E several mm.
