Oh yeah, that looks sweet all put together. Hopefully the headers squeeze into the 914 okay.

The more I studied the flywheel the more I disliked it. I weighed it and it weighed more the the stock steel monstrosity that Porsche hung off the end of the crank. I ditched one of the 1" aluminum discs I made and the 1//4" plate I was using as an intermediate plate to run all my fasteners through. I ended up dropping 10 lbs off the weight of the assembly.

This brought on a whole new problem. The bellhousing was now 1 1/4" too long. So as I did with the original 901 conversion, I got out the router with a slot cutter and shortened it.... That is one bold move! If there was ever a case (!) to be made for "measure 387 times and cut once", this has to be it.
How does this change impact the location of the drivetrain, in terms of where the engine and trans output flanges were and now are?
Can't wait to see how it turns out! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)

The engine was moved back 2" with the original build. The Boxster transaxle flanges are farther forward than the 901 so we shall see how it works out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/assimilate.gif)

It will probably be very close to straight for the axles. Mine has a 1/2 inch adapter plate in between the engine and trans, and the transmission axle flanges are centered in the opening of the wheel well.

This is a great improvement. Now I need to do my clutch.

My hands would have been shaking the entire cutting process!

Looking good!

The flywheel and clutch are in. The transaxle in it's shortened configuration is bolted up. I need to test the clutch release action to be sure my calculations worked out yet. But it's close to coming off the table.

Got the clutch to release so much to do yet. But so far it looks like I may have pushed past the hard stuff.

Just ran into a couple delays. I need to get the engine off the table. I have to move 2 cars outside. The Alien rolls fine but the other car is the 6 and it is still on the Celette. I have to use our truck to tow it out and in. The challenge is the crap weather we have here. It's either been -20 or snowing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) but there's always next week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Wow. Just read the whole thread, what a journey and an incredible car. So cool seeing all the different phases you've taken this car through. Ive never driven my 914 but I guess it's good to learn now that I'll never be "done"

Nice to see a fellow midwesterner in here. I'm in the roofing business as well(wasn't sure if you're in roofing or adjusting). Look forward to seeing this thing back on the road.

And to think I am bitching about 55 degrees and a light rain for the next few days.

It was in the 80s last week. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

Rolled it under the the car for the first test fit there is plenty of room for the headers and muffler. I pulled out the mix master shifter and tunnel rod in preparation for the cable setup. I still need to purchase a shifter and cables. I am hoping a set of stock Boxster cables will work for shifter location. We shall see. Since ClayPerrine was the George Samual Kirk in his attempt to use a Boxster transaxle forging an unexplored path thru the Galaxy I will need to look to his experience with this issue.

The stock Boxster cables would require making new holes in the firewall because the flanges are too big to go in the speeo/shifter holes in the firewall.

I used the Numeric racing cables... https://numericracing.com/cdn/shop/products...4&width=500

To get them in the holes for the speedo/shift rod in the firewall, the cable has to have the flange trimmed off of it. Once that is done, you just put another nut on the inside end of the cable to replace the flange.

And you are welcome to copy my transmission mount. There are pictures of it in my build thread on this page: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...9084&st=120

If you need detailed pictures, just let me know and I will take all the pictures you want of the transmission mount.

I know people on here have made mounts that attach to the sides of the trans and don't go around the back end. I don't particularly like them. There is lots of vertical pressure on the mount when accelerating and using engine brake, and a cantilevered mount seems a bit fragile to me.

Finally finished the rough in transaxle mount. It's not pretty yet but it's in. The 5 speed is offset to one side. It is the strangest thing. The case is much different than the 6. I was checking out Clay's Big Bad 6 and notice his mount is much further forward. Mine is about back as far as it was when I had the 901 installed. I am running solid mounts again as I have since 2003 when I first built this car. There is no need for rubber mounts is a performance car in my opinion. Race cars have solid mounts. There is no noticeable vibration thru the car from this type of installation.
