Console turned out nice, getting anything to fit in that tight of a space is tough.

Project is coming along nicely!

Since you brought up space issues, the stock console is only ~3/8" ply. I think the early deposit is ~1/4"

I built my original console with 1/2" particle walls & supports and 1/8" fiber top & bottom. The center bin I built tall enough to house CD cases and the original flip up padded lid. It's strong enough for me to lay on when I'm under the dash.

Stainless Magna Flow. 2 in 2 out. Crosses over inside the muffler. This thing will definitely set off car alarms. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

I ran that same muffler. I was surprised how "not that loud" it was behind the 6.2 liter LS3. I'll be interested to hear what you think once you hear it on your car.
How'd you decide to mount it?

Hard to see but I made a mount so the exhaust can be removed. Split at the collector and the mounts. It's tipped or rotated at an angle to try to get as far above the bottom of the bumper as possible. My oldest son is making me a heat shield blanket to protect the trunk floor and Fibre glas bumper.

And your exhaust doesn't move at all? I have poly sport mounts on my trans and poly on the engine mounts so the drive train moves a little. My muffler is also hard mounted to the trans, like yours, Just curious if you're concerned the exhaust tips may hit the bumper.

WOW Rick

Your bring back memories the first time I saw it about 2004-5 in MI (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
I can't wait to see it again with a fresh updated rebuild. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

The engine and transaxle are on solid mounts also. Rubber mounts are for passenger cars designed by engineers looking to isolate the feeling of torque for a less reactive driver experience. I have run solid mounts since 2003. When I punch the loud peddle the nose of the car jump up square to the road. Crazy feeling

Engine is back out for the last time. Need to redesign the throttle linkage, finish the left side cooling and re-polish the intake without removing it. I should be able to reinstall it tonight.

Not enough room for round tubing. I have about 1/2 space between the alternator belt and the timing belt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Hi Rick,

It's looking really nice. Congratulations on getting this close to having the motor back where it belongs. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

One quick question and if I missed the answer previously in your thread, I apologize. But, is that a GM alternator? If so, why? Because it puts out more amps?

Ran one on a 914 type iv motor in a bus years ago, but is was more to save $ than anything else. But, running on an aircooled motor probably reduced its longevity, especiallywithout cooling air ducting.

Yes it is a GM one wire. I like the built in voltage regulator. Takes that out of play on the relay board. Fairly small size and they make a housing for right or left tension bracket.
