QUOTE(Dr Evil @ Apr 28 2008, 08:06 AM) *

Thanks guys. It is true that the most important things to me are that Chris is OK, I am OK and that he and I are still friends. I cant imagine ever laughing about this at a later date, though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

When the time comes, Chris will probably laugh, you will probably laugh a bit less. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) The really good news is that no one was hurt seriously. But this does bring up a very important issue for us as we head for Summer.

For all the joking we do about our little 100 HP cars, we do drive high performance vehicles that were built before many of the current safety features (i.e. side impact curtains and front air-bags) were included. As such, we need to re-evaluate our vehicles and our driving habits very carefully several times a year. There has been mention of tires not up to temp and extra weight in the car, items which we should all make ourselves aware of.

I worked for about 5 years at Nellis AFB (Las Vegas, NV), supporting multi-national air training missions (Red Flag). Each training segment lasted 2-weeks. On the Monday of week 2, (after the pilots spent the weekend futzing around Las Vegas) the pilots were always brought together in a large debrief room and shown a mandatory 30-minute tape of previous missions where one or more pilots died as a result of losing their situational awareness. As a result of this viewing, air fatalities dropped significantly.

We should spend a few minutes about four times a year reviewing our vehicles and their anticipated performance for the upcoming seasonal weather changes. Additionally, we should take that time to review our driving skills (habits) as well as take a quick inventory of our vehicle's wear points and weaknesses. The less we take for granted, the better chance we have of staying on the pavement.

Yup, I intend to do some forensics as it is not natural that way it went down. I will be harvesting all the good parts and then taking the body to the scrapper. I have waaaaaaaaay too many good parts to let go and can convert any car in a matter of days with what I have.

Even if you find something wronge with the car. Always keep in mind condition change by the hour. It dosent take much for the car to react to the changes.
Glad you both are OK Lord knows I drive fast.

I'm so sorry to hear this, but glad nobody seriously injured.

Are you sure it's totalled? I'm sure that we can gather whatever parts you need. If it's in my garage (and not bolted to a car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ), it's yours.

I plan on keeping anything I can: Wheels, interior, engine, tranny, /6HEs, front suspension, /6 oil tank and parts, steering wheel, gauges, center console, maybe cut off the rear flairs, brake system, battery, circuit board, etc. I will go out to the yard and take pics if I can soon.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) OHHHH NO, only things that matters is that you are OK. I don't even no what to say except accidents happen. Don't beat yourself up, it could have been a lot worse. Chris, hope you have a speedy recovery and let us know when you need help. (thanks for the jump on Sat.).

Sounds to me like the road may have been a bit wet or something was on the surface. We have not had rain for awhile and maybe the oil had built up on the road. If you want to shoot down to Philly to put in some wrench time let me know.

That really bites. Glad to hear you're both OK. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if you find a little extra gravel on the road. Had a similar thing happen once, fortunately with less dire results.

Hang in there.

That really sucks. I can understand the guilt but don't let it eat you up.
On the other hand there's an original 914-6 shell on e-bay. It's got some rust issues of course but it should go pretty cheap.

Glad everyone is Ok! I think you and I are the victim of cold tires. Last weekend I took out my front passenger A-arm, tire, and tie rod by sliding into a curb through a traffic circle. Weird weather out in these parts. Last weekend 33 and freezing rain. This weekend 70 and sunny. Now it is 55 and raining.

The troops will ralley for the Doc. Let us know what we can do to help ya! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)
