Shocker shocker? I found it in the rear of the trunk. Any thoughts?

Found what? The chassis number? All 914s have that, except some of the very late (76?) cars ...
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Andy

PS: And your chassis number looks very much like a /4 chassis number ...

Haha, then in that case, I stand corrected. Is it not a 6 number?

according to the 914/4 chassis decoder:

You have no idea.

For the last few days I've had the attitude of, "Hey, I'll be putting a six engine in a six body."

Are the weeks counted from the first full week in the year, or the week that the first day of the year falls on?

What is the VIN? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Production started in '69, so yours is probably not too early, i'm guessing your VIN is somewhere around 4702903375 ...

That can't be right ... That VIN seems too high for January 1970. It should be more like June or July.

Do you still have the black square plate on the front of the drivers side door jamb?
If so, what are the numbers on there? Should be the chassis code and the paint code.

Also, does it still have the large sticker on the rear drivers side door jamb? That should have the build date. Something like 06/70 ...

Those where both gone before I got the car. It's been through alot of owners, and my guys is they did alot of iffy work that I've been noticing, just some stuff that goes against some common sense thinking.

Here's my Dad's take on it...
He thinks that it was a Frankenstein car, and that it was pieced at the factory, this is because there is a seem at the front of the door jams. It's so well done we didn't notice it until we took the car down to metal.

Give me a few minutes, pictures to come.

My 70 is a 03/70 Prod Date with a VIN of 4702912193

Maybe they got off to a fast start in 70, probably hoped to sell 40,000 of them instead of 20,000 of them.

Again, I'm pretty sure, based on what you've told me as well as the green paint on in the area. This would also explain the Orange paint in the front.

a lot of accident cars were pieced together half and half by american repair shops

I've seen many of these, and it was a means to easily avoid a salvage title...

whats the vin in the front trunk area say?

I don't think the factory did work like that......

I have seen fronts and rears from 2 cars pieced together at the rear bulkhead.

My guess is repairs from a wreck.

I've seen this too, however, the bottom coat of paint on the back end was green, and even had green a little on the front section, not like overspray, but similar, like the area was prepped.
