For anyone considering racing, here is a rough idea of expenses. Note this does NOT cover blown engines or transmissions or wrecking the car and having body work done. I race 6 to 8 times a year, so figure 6 races per year.
- Engine lasts approx 24 race weeekends as long as no over revs and oil is changed religeously = $10,000 / 4 years
- Trans last about the same provided no bad shifts = $3000 / 4 years
- Tires, two sets of Goodyear cantilever slicks last 2 years = $1600 / 2 years
- Gas, the car uses 5 gals per 30 minute race, figure 20 gals per weekend x $8 per gallon = $960 per year
- Oil, changed every two races, I use Mobile 1 15-50 from Walmart = $120 per year.
- Entry for a race varies but with HSR West $350 per race is average = $2100 per year.

People spend more than this playing golf in San Diego for sure!
