QUOTE(DNHunt @ Oct 24 2009, 07:28 AM) *

The good news is this was A, F, M, S, X. so I used M and S for better gearing on the AX track. I used the stock ZD for an overdrive for the highway. If I trailered I would have used X. I toyed with getting a GA shaft and I still may. A is fine cause I just use it to get started and short shift to second.

Dave

Dave,
I think Jake wants us to stay out of 5th gear. I notice that you can watch the CHT rise when you are in 5th. For that reason, I am going to put the X in as it would be a usable gear. Granted, the engine is less noisy and I am sure you get better mileage with the stock 5th though...

Rob

I think X would mean 4000 at highway speed. My engine is really happy with 3400. Steep hills I'll shift down for.

Dr. Evil,

You can count me in. Please PM me your address and I will get a check to you on Monday.

I am bringing a first gear deleted flipped H or ZD with a bearing issue, a stock with a slider fork popped out, and a supposedly used PCA owner built track box. 3 total. My goal is to put together the fast box to put back in my V8 car and a good stock street geared box to sell for profit.

Do you think this is in the realm of possibilities for a noob transaxle guy?

NO! I dont want my address being released to the public like that. As I stated, anyone that is going as a builder needs to PM me for my address (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) This has been the best way in all of the other clinics.

One check is in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I just bought the tickets for me and the wife as well as rented a car so I need to make at least $800 to break even (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

JimTab is set to bring his car for a drop-fix-install.

The plan is to arrive on the 4th at about 11:30am, pick up the rental car, and bum around until Jim gets home. Then we will chill with Jim and Lynn on Fri night. On Sat morning Jim and I will take the green teen to the shop in Sonoma and get to work. Noel will be visiting family in SJ and attending to some storage unit BS.

Our flight leaves to come home on Mon at 11:55am.

Her sisters shit is in a storage unit in SJ and houses a sacred piece of furniture that she can no longer afford to care for. Thus, Noel needs to go clean up after the ding dong and make arrangements to have said item shipped all the way east (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) YAY!

Dave, you have my attention now... So a stock 5th for a highway gear or I have also heard of a flipped gear? Which is this and what does it give you at highway speed for engine speed?

I realized what you meant by TB after I posted, but then got busy with a call from degreeoff which, of all things, is going to have me install a TB diff for him (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I just woke up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I pointed him towards Guard. I like their stuff and Paul seems like a nice guy, and I love Auburn.

Just a note... I see that Paul has sold GT to someone in Colorado. So it is no longer located in Auburn.

A stock 5th for driving on the highway with MS gears is doable, but consider that you will have to wind up the car pretty high in 4th so that it doesnt fall on its face in fifth. For air cooled, no flipping of 5th gears.

I just built an A, F, M, S, ZD.

I haven't driven it a lot yet but, I like it a lot so far. It is a bit more of a leap to 5th but, it isn't a big deal. I love the shorter 4th. We have several roads around here that are poste 40 or 45 and the car is now comfortable in 4th on them. I wouldn't give up ZD for the interstates. My only issue may be on the interstate when traffic slows a little. Shifting between 4th and 5th often could get old.

I really wish I had an L 3rd for AX but, they are just too expensive.
