QUOTE(strawman @ Aug 19 2009, 10:20 PM) *

I've got a sideshift 901 out of my '73 teener that I can contribute to the cause for a fair price. It includes the shifter, all linkage and the engine mount. I don't know the exact history of the box, but I got the car from my next door neighbor and he says it shifted great when he parked it 15 years ago. Either way, you could go through it at the clinic, or buy it for parts.

I live in Davis, which is on the way to Sonoma from the Central Valley. PM me with an offer if you're interested.

Geoff

How much?

How does $200 for the entire "kit" sound?

The evil doctors schedule is starting to get quite full. These will be his last transmission appearances. After that you will have to attempt suicide or drive into a tree to see him. I know one guy who let a car fall on his face but Dr. Evil hadn't graduated yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) If you want to see THE Dr. Evil this is your chance! $300 to rebuild nada to watch.... Such a deal we've got for you...

Think about it! You can fix those damned synchros AND pick your gear ratio... Plenty of time to study and ferret out those proper gears for your engine... I am going with an MSX 3/4/5.

Since I am always getting crap about pictures of my car with garbage containers in the background, I thought I would show that someone else has pics of their car with garbage containers too! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ahhh.... December in Sonoma. So relaxed... The grapes have been picked and crushed. The fermentation is taking place. This is when the feet go up and the reruns get watched.

But not for you. You will be at the Northern California Transmission Rebuild Clinic at Original Customs on December 5/6. Mark your calendar. Study your transmission dropping procedures. (drop the muffler, support the engine, drop the tranny. Most common mistake is forgetting the ground strap). See you all there!!!

What do we need to purchase ourselves before showing up? Does the $300 include gasket kits, hardware, etc? How often do bits like bearings need replacing?

Thanks!

You can purchase parts through me if you like. The $300 is only for the class, seal kits are $40. Bearings and such often break, but I can not tell you to buy replacements until I know more about your gear box. I do not see myself having any used stock left by Dec as I have 4 clinics ahead of this one.

PM me with your gear box symptoms.

Rob,

I am interested as an observer, I recently had the DR rebuild mine but would like to see the guts spilled out for future wear and tear

QUOTE(ConeDodger @ Aug 9 2009, 06:49 PM) *

Gauging interest in a Northern California 901 Rebuild Clinic at Original Customs in Sonoma California. This two day event will give you the opportunity to meet Dr. Evil before he drops his tools and picks up his stethescope on a permanant basis. The event will be held in December or later.

You also get to see McMark's facility up close and personal.

If you want in on this, sound off here!

Details: (edited by McMark)
Date: early December 2009, two day event
Cost: $300 to build, $0 to spectate (yes, zero)

Observers are free and welcome... Who is DR? Dr Evil,

I have a supply of at least three gearboxes that are all in unknown shape. So, no symptoms to report. I'll pull the gear stacks before the class.

Things may seem calm on the surface but I am getting email every day from guys wondering about what gears to put in. Maybe we should start a thread on gear choices. I am going with MSX which gives me a very close ratio box. Eric Shea has an MS? with the 5th gear being some highway gear so he can climb the mountain passes he needs to to get East or West of SLC.

There are lots of gear choices and they are expressed in letters. Maybe someone can post that chart...

Here is the chart (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Flipped ZD is in the wrong spot on this chart, it should be between K and L.

So there you have it... The grey gears are stock 914. The numbers along the left tell you what gear that can be used for. Just follow the chart to your redline and you can see your top speed in that gear. Fun with charts! Who says being a geek isn't a blast??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

By the way, someone should reproduce this as an Excel Spreadsheet putting the Flipped ZD in its correct spot so that we can enter our tire diameter. We can put it in the 914 Info Section. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
