This is a very embarrassing post however a few weeks ago, some local guys convinced me to take two of my cars up to a local drag strip for a test and tune night. My 911 is not exactly set up for drag racing however I figured that I should have no problems against Dodge Rams (with very modified Cummins Diesels). Well, I was wrong.

I did get a lot of wheel spin and my clutch is slipping however I thoroughly got my butt kicked. The truck that I was racing, let off the throttle because I was so far behind. I think that he normally runs 1/4 miles in the mid 12's. My time was pathetic. If everything was running right, I think that I would have gotten low to mid 13's.

We were going to race my Cayenne Turbo (with the baby seat in back!) vs the rams but we ran out of time.

I defense of the Porsche crowd- my car was basically stock (I did not have mufflers on during race) and their trucks were heavily modified.

Next time, I will take them to race a road coarse against my 914- that would be fun to watch.

heres the post (my race is about midway through the video):

Just because it's a Porsche doesn't mean it's fast. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Sounds like it would have been a good commercial for Dodge trucks though!

Those Cummins plants can be monsterously powerful with only a little bit of tuning.

They come way detuned from the factory. Those pickups can stomp just about everything in a straight line.

The important thing was that it was fun. I am pretty sure that my wifes Cayenne Turbo would have gotten beat however I think that it would have been a better fight. Her Cayenne is just shy of 600 hp. Very fast grocery getter.

Yeah, those trucks can generate scary amounts of power and torque with little effort. My understanding is just a chip will get you close to 1000 lb-ft of torque.

Yeah...

Classic!!! Those trucks arent modified much either, just add extra fuel and turn up the boost. The trucks you see at the track usually have a bigger turbo and a head gasket if they are running over 60lbs of boost. A guy down the street has one that runs low 10's on street tires...

Sorry the cayenne would have gotten beat for sure.

Those trucks can brake boost to launch in 4wd cutting 1.5-1.6 60ft times on street tires. The drivetrain can certainly take it.

I got my ass handed to me by a few diesel trucks, in my GTi that makes 400whp and weighs 2800lbs with me in it.

They get out and a lot of them now have enough top end and proper gearing to be in the low 11's and 10's.

They have about 700-800hp, 1000+ft lbs of torque.

I launched with anti-lag under pressure and the truck jumped like I was standing still.

My brothers friend has a brand new Dodge dually. The truck weighs 10,000lbs + and is absouletly scary to ride in. There is a guy in our area that has a dodge that will run the 1/4 in the high 9's! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

What is that car at 1:33 - it seems to haul some serious ass.
Modern diesel trucks are fun - my silly barely modified F-350 (2002 7.3 turbo) is flat out stupid. 3 wheel drive (no lsd on the front diff) launches are insane - some fool with an SS 454 pig wanted to race me on the way home a while ago. Flip switch to 4 wheel high and mash brake and go pedal as hard as possible and ZOOM - 8000 pounds of truck leaps to about 50 MPH (in a 50 zone) Flat out silly and I almost never do that as I like getting 20+ MPG.

I have this weird mental picture of a 914 body deformed into a corkscrew shape by the massive torque.

I watched an episode of Pass Time on Speed TV where they had one of those modified Dodge diesel pickups make a pass and I was blown away by how fast it was but it was belching black smoke the whole way.

Watching that video, which is pretty cool, it is clear that if you had another 100 ft, you would have caught up to him. The intial launch is what he had all over you, but as your 1/4mi speed was 95 and his was 88, it is clear you were catching up REALLY quickly.

Thanks for showing, it is amazing how fast that one dodge was, as well as what appeared to be a TR6 ot TR4. It just shot out of the start. Maybe it has a diesel? LOL

Amazing.

For some reason I was thinking both cars were faster. A 911 non turbo only traps 95ish?

My MFI 911 is pretty fast.

Shifting the transmission is kinda slow though.
