My MFI 911 is pretty fast.

Shifting the transmission is kinda slow though.

Fast in drag racing usually starts around trapping 115.

I wouldn't drag race the 911... too expensive to fix things that break.

I get the feeling to get a non-turbo 911 or 6 porsche trapping 115+ it takes cash in fairly large piles.

Probably cheaper and easier to make a FWD car that fast.

I agree, but in the state of MD most places are not required to have some sanitation equipment. I have a lot of friends who go out of state because they are that paranoid.

I guess PA is the same. I have heard of legit folks working out of their house in a clean room with the proper equipment but eh. I am un inked.

I guess the question is, would the hep be worth the sex?

That is waht it was called! There is something else too my friend was talking about. He has sleeves and most of his legs are done. He is pretty anal about this stuff.

I should point out a few interesting things. First- this was my first and only time on a drag strip. Second- I got a very bad start due to wheel spin and a slipping clutch. third- my car wasn't very clean so the aerodynamics were way off (just kidding). I honestly thought that my times and speeds were pathetic however even with good speeds and times, I would have still been beaten.

FYI- I did mention to them that they should come out to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Coarse and race against my 914 there- they agreed but then they said that after that we would have our final competition at the truck pulls- 2 out of 3 wins. I think my 911 or 914 wouldn't even make it onto the truck pull field.

IRS is not great for drag racing.

There is a reason why solid axle cars dominate. You can make an IRS car do ok, but drag racing is a solid axle RWD domestic car dominated sport for a reason.

It takes way more preparation and thought to get a 911 or FWD/imported car into the 11's/10's/9's than anythign domestic.

You can just go buy a 2001 Z28 LS1 car, intake manifold, headers, cam, tune, rear end and you are running low 11 second 1/4 miles on a stock block making 420rwhp or so. Add heads and it goes up.

I know a couple of guys who go drag racing with Corvettes, and they do well at it, but to me it's kind of a waste of the IRS. You want bulletproof, you want a solid axle.

To put this in perspective, my first night to drag race the Monte I was beat by a Kia Spectra but something like 2-3 seconds. Went to launch and all I got was smoke and wheel spin.

Was only an 1/8 mi track but I was able to put down an 8.5 second pass in the mid 90s with wheel spin into third and a 1.5 reaction time. Wonder what I could do with decent tires...

Everything has it's purpose - I've never considered drag racing to be included in that on a stock P car, like I've never considered Auto-X in the list of B-Body cars - but they do it (and well sometimes). That said, it's fun.

I've still got Auto-X on my list of things to try.

back OT, you might be surprised by the truck on the road course as well... I had a bone stock Lightning that I could chew people up with. I had ignition issues with my car when I first moved to CO, and I found out I needed to take a one day instruction class to get on the local tracks here, so I took the pickup out and the teacher to this days remembers it... she was wary of letting me out there in an F150 but I assured her she would "respect the truck" after a few laps (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

so long story short, she sent me a link on her facebook page to a diesel Dodge on a road course, followed by a guy in an S2000 (who is taking the footage) and he couldn't catch that truck. Sure, it might be driver skill, etc but that truck was haulin'. I don't have access to FB here at work (I am surprised I even get access to this site) but if you have FB, look up Judy Faass - she has Faasst racing school and the link should be on her page.

Side note with the Lightning, I went to a track day at Streets of Willow in SoCal and a bunch of tuner import dudes with their Scoobies and Mitsus saw it and went to the organizer and bitched that they didn't want a truck out there in their way. Organizer knew me, told me, so I went out with them first session and after I passed a few of them, the rest couldn't catch me, every one of them followed when I came in and were all over the truck looking at it and trying to figure out WTF just happened. Only guy that could get away from me was a Mitsu on R tires and I had stock Eagle F1s (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The trucks in the past few years have been pretty amazing.
