550 Spyder Project This is not a kit. It is a one-of-a-kind copy of 550 Spyder #063 body on a tubular space frame with modified Porsche 914 mechanicals. It is not finished.
After 20 years and thousands of hours, I am "running out of gas" and time on this labor of love. This is a very special car for the right person. It is more than 95% complete, but needs someone with good mechanical skills who would enjoy a challenge that would produce a very fast, sturdy and reliable car. I did not get a title for the donor car, since it was not required at the time I bought it. I think this may be an obstacle here in Massachusetts. Maybe there is a procedure for it, but I have no more time or energy for it. OR: Maybe someone wants a great track car and doesn't need a title. No more welding is needed. The only major parts not included are a windshield and an exhaust system. I don't think this could be duplicated for less than $30K. three-angle valve cut
mild head work
Webcam performance hydraulic lifter cam
911 fan, alternator, voltage regulator & FAT shroud
Moeling high capacity oil pump
Weber IDF 40 carbs, w/32 mm venturies and correct jets
external oil cooler (your choice of two)
914 transaxle rebuilt with closer ratios (AA, GA, N, Y, ZA)
Chassis:
Tubular steel triangulated frame
914 steering rack w/930 tie rods
5-lug steel Porsche wheels (two sets)
Unequal A-arms front & rear
Adjustable anti-sway bars and Carrera shocks
All brake and hydraulic clutch lines
Throttle cable & linkage, pedal to carbs
Hand brake lever and lines
All calipers (914)
Full, braced, removable roll bar
Fuel cell, electric pump, all lines tank to carbs
Body:
Full fiberglass body, copied from 1956 low-tail 550
completely removable from frame
Door hardware (hinge plates, hinges, latches, interior handles/linkage)
Aluminum floors
Original Porsche 356 engine grilles
Repro early VW covered headlights
Round taillights
Wiring harness
Fiberglass seat shells (copied from original Spyder aluminum ones)
Needs:
Install valve gear, clutch
Assembly
Body finishing (currently grey gel-coat)
Windshield
Exhaust system
Title, if you register it. (Have sales slips from body, frame, donor car.)
