My 2.0 blew a 6" hole in the top of the crankcase, both halfs. Can you tell me if (of course if they're not damaged) I can use all the components in a 1.7 case?

Point me in the direction of good reference material for re-build?

Appreciate your comments/guidance...

I think the 1.7 is the case used to make the big motors, so yes you can use it. Machine work will be required. Type 4 store has a DVD on building them, I havn't seen it myself.

Contact Jake Raby? I think the cases are the same exept for machine work. The internal components, pistons and cylinders, and heads are all different.

Either case will work if you're not concerned about the numbers. Everything else inside is different except fr some of the bearings, seals and probably the lifters & pushrods.
Here's a decent book http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Volkswagen-a...3279&sr=1-9

Cases are the same, except some very early 1.7s. Internals are different. Your crank and a rod or two are likely scrap.
