speak of trannies. Anyone here rebuild their own before? How hard is it? Am I able to do it sucessfully? I have torn down many cars, and rebuilt quite a few engines and have done turbo installs in other cars with great success. Can I tackle a tranny rebuild?
KenH
Yes you can, if you pay attention to the small details. There are several do-it-your self articals around. You can down load the manual from this site.

Also, I suggest you take the Jerry Woods Tranny Class first.

Another good source for parts which I have not seen here is:http://www.pap-parts.com. (Not affiliated or on commission, just local)
1st gear teeth = $97
2-5 teeth = $88
1-5 synchro ring = $49
1st/rev sleeve = $400
2-5 sleeve = $130

I rebuilt mine last year and posted my progress. Swapped in the flipped 5th to 3rd too. Wasn't too hard using Redbeard info and the Porsche manuals. Lots of measuring of bits and pieces and then ordering parts.
Pretty straight forward process IMHO . Go for it before the summer starts.

A nice shifting 914 is a joy!

I have to do the reverse. I graduate from my university in May, so I can't slack off now and be working on trannies. haha. So I have to start in the summer for sure. cool_shades.gif
