At the AX this past Sunday, I missed a shift and over-revved the engine. It stalled and would not restart. I assumed the worst and dropped the engine and pulled the driver's side head. I expected to see some bent valves, but it looks alright. I'm going to check the other side to be certain. I never heard any hideous noises.

What else should I be looking for in this situation?

I did that a few years ago and the rings were completely out of spec as the gaps were too big. Still ran but had a lot of back pressure/blowby. So I put in new pistons

I did that once at a track...messed up my whole weekend and 5 hour drive to the track.

Turned out that the points slipped. re-gap and check.

you might be ok...

Look for a valve guide hammered right into the head cracking the spring boss

I believe I may have found the problem. I have a Hot Spark ignition in my distributor. I tested it by using a meter and spinning the distributor and it never turns on. I also tried using a battery and light bulb, still nothing.

Is this the correct way to test a hall sensor?

Thanks for the suggestions.

There a bunch of ways, do a google search.
Make sure you try both poles of the magnet.

Most over reving is usually from a wrong gear selection and most of the time if there is a problem created it's a broken piston land. I don't see any way the ring gap will change though, the rings just loose their support and seal from the broken land because the ring groove is wider.
