aktion035.gif So I'm committed to get this dream of mine on the road

Turn this rear half of a 914 into a car-b-q happy11.gif
In time to use at RedRock's Bar-B-Q
What kept me from getting it done, funds sad.gif
Brutal year, but that won't stop this Stubbord Irishman
so any of the gang in Colorado has materials I can use for the car-b-q
please LMK

also a hand would be very greatly appreciated! aktion035.gif
biggest issue is the propane gas plumbing
I've a great start from a fellow 914'ner
In HIS 914! aktion035.gif Too kool.
He brought a 2" tube bar,3 'long for the tongue
Anybody have a 2" ball reciever?
Input please, I'm smart enough to learn from other people mistakes! smash.gif
Sleepin
I am so excited about this one Kevin!

If you do it right, you may be able to incorporate a cooler as well as a grille! wink.gif

I wish I was on the other side of the hill....but if there is anything I can do, please let me know!
rick 918-S
What are you using for the grill stuff Kev?

thisthreadisworthlesswithoutpics.gif

Show us your parts maybe we have some stuff laying around we can send.
majkos
LOL I was in the garage taking pics.

Well it was an early car!

Not very aerodynamic from this point of view. Might have to sheet in the tongue area to help with airflow, and maybe store propane canisters.

Is that a 2" section of square tube? I may have a 2" hitch that fits that tube.

majkos
As for grilling, no idea
I thought I get a bunch from a thift store
but don't need to work with more rust! lol-2.gif

Maybe find enough parts to make it work
but I've no clue in that dept.

What's really needed now is a 2" receiver
some 3/4 angle to build a frame in the engine compartment
I've some alum. skin to close off the bottem part of the engine area,
turning this into another trunk!
for cooler and propane tank

Yeah Eric I wish you and your family were over here too
we have a ball over all theses insane 914 stuff!
Bugging Gint and all

I've been wanting to put a Amco Bar on the back for holding cooking utensils.
I leave out anything?

Sleepin
Ohh, zx-niner bought it, but he may..loan it? The thread is here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...69&hl=hitch maybe the pics will help.

well all the info certainly cut down my search
thanks a million Sleepin'
I even have the perfect chrome bumper for the cutting the receiver hole.
I'm going to concentrate on the trailer first,

Silly Andy!
Henna says it "Air Cooled"
Grill will be in the rear trunk, on the "other" side of the firewall!

What's that on the floor? poke.gif
Can't wait to see this project come together biggrin.gif

Or you could use an actual car. It looks like this guy just installed a regular grill somehow. Does anybody know this guy? You could grill in the back trunk, fill the front trunk with ice for the keg.

Reverse that.
Put the grill in the engine bay and you can use the engine lid as the cover to the grill. You can also access the grill through the missing rear window, so perhaps you can design the engine lid to open in reverse. The propane tanks would store well underneath it, (shorter piping) where the engine usually is.
The rear trunk would make a better cooler (more beer and easier access).
majkos
I admit, engine grill for grilling would be too kool.
But we've all this shallow space perfect for grilling
Look what I found in the trunk!

I would think to either make the trunk lid removeable with pins, or open from the side, gangsta style. I dunno, Gregor has a point.

First, a warning. Although pick-up box trailers are cheap and easy to make, they are one poor trailer unless they are properly rigged. The biggest problem is the fact that the wheels are smack dab in the middle of the box. When you load the thing and go over a bump, the trailer tends to whip because of there being no weight or negative weight on the ball. You need to have the wheels behind the centerline of the box to about 60 percent in front and 40 percent in back for it to handle safely. If you use the original axle, you must keep the gears together so that the front seal can keep the gear oil in. Some have removed the gears and made a plate for the front opening to keep the oil in. Those bearings can't run dry. The truck axle will probably work fine, it will just be heavier than the lighter beam axle. You can always strip the brakes off to make it a little lighter.

Mike, up in Windy Wyoming, Good eye!

But my Sam's deal went belly up last fall.
Eric, I agree on the aero part, that's why I'm going w/o the window biggrin.gif

Seems like every place I read, they say that you want 60% weight on the tongue side and 40% on the axle side, otherwise she will sway. Something to think about when doing the layout.

Hey Kevin... Did you see this from Rick:

Not sure if the IRS will help or hurt in a trailer application. I don't think it would affect it negatively, because we are looking at what 600lbs or so?
majkos
600 lbs!
dude I don't think it weigh more than 300 maybe 400
