Today i was searching around my favorite non porsche auto parts site ( rock auto) and low and behold i saw they have the turbo tie rod kit for $79!!!! now compare that to the other porsche parts specialist at $150 to $180. some of you might know this already but i thought i'd share it with the ones who don't. the also have lots of other 914 parts for a lot cheaper than the other guys. just no specialty stuff.

Check & make sure it's the Lemforder (sp?) OEM one, otherwise that's about the price for most of the other usual suspects to sell the knock-off ones!

The quality is not the same, & when I got mine from PP last year, I initially got the cheaper one, but when I saw it in hand, I sent it back & paid for the Lemforder OEM one instead. IMHO - I was not impressed & felt it would give out in a short time vs. the OEM set/kit.

ÜRO PARTS Part # 93034702000KIT well they aren't lemforder but i have bought a lot of parts from rockauto and have never been disapointed in any brand they carry. i understand its not worth it to buy cheap knock offs but on the same hand to me its not worth it to over pay for a "name". i know alot of you guys like to buy only the best and biggest names but i'm poor so i get by on the middle quality stuff.

my cheapo knock off turbo tie rod story is one of the boots, they failed, crakced rubber within one year, and the boots were never used, the they failed before use' after one year. the rubber was a very high gloss, almost like a PVC plastic, kind of like a plastic beach ball. the good "real" boot rubber looks more like a tire material, a flat black, not glossy.
I confirmed that not one, but two sets of these boots failed.

so if your turbo tierod boots are of a glossy finish, use care, they might self destruct rather fast.

Correction... do it right once so you don't have to pay twice. It's not worth it to buy cheap junk that will fail... especially if it's on your S-T-E-E-R-I-N-G R-A-C-K.

Unless they say Lemforder, don't buy them.

I too buy my Audi parts from an on-line site. Always good service and carry many name brands (Brembo, Meyle, Bosche, etc.) at great prices.

When my 95 A6 blew its power steering high pressure hydraulic hose, I went to the on-line store and bought their $125 hose instead of Audi's $375 hose.

The first hose I put on lasted about a week before it started to leak. Returned it and the second one lasted about 2 weeks before it leaked.

So I finally returned the hoses and bought the $375 Audi hose. 4 years later and not a drop of the $35 per quart Audi hydraulic fluid has leaked.

Moral of the story is some aftermarket parts are good and some are not. The knock-off turbo tie rods are not good.

I have not been impressed with the other URO parts that I have bought. in particular the brake master cylinder. I'd steer clear.

Rick, sorry dude... You were so pumped to share a cheap supplier, however the chaps who responded before me are all just trying to help you save some time and money. GPR used to sell those, not for long either. It took over 10 kits to equal the lifespan of the Lemforder boots, and the material in the ball joints went fast too.

Perhaps if the poor mans Porsche is too rich for you, World beater 924 a better choice? Mummm, 2.5 Audi CIS tractor motor.

any one can sell the euro parts turbo tie rod kit for 79. bucks and make money, and we even have them in stock for those on a budget but they have a habit of quickly rotting the boots.

Just went thru the same issue. Thought I could be a smart ass and save a few bucks they were not only crap, they were incorrectly threaded, and trying to return them was a friggin nightmare, called the "special" number talked to Chris in friggin Bhopal India, WHAT!?.

Called PP got the right ones, Lemforder, except nothing less, ever. Perfect fit, I have a 72 1.7
First thing never make a purchase without talking about it here, the wealth of experiance is beyond comprehension, and the willingness to help you is priceless. Had an issue with my brakes a few weeks ago put a notice on the boards and "underthetire" in Calif , gave me his phone number told me to call and he talked me down. where else you gonna get that?

So whats the best price on lemforder turbo tie rods these days? I've been putting this off cause I may want to go with a newer ps rack and haven't studied the ends matchup quandry yet.
