I drained the lube from the transaxle for the Alien. This came out the drain plug.

This looks like the same one that went out on mine! It was on the end of the main shaft.

Both intermediate plate bearings are ball bearings. The mainshaft bearing is a double row design, the pinion shaft bearing is a single row bearing.

dimensions of the bearing roller would make it easier to say for sure.

The nut was was off, the locking washer was broken into pieces and the bearing is shattered. Everything else looks fine and the transaxle was still functioning believe it or not.

Any other damage? Did the bits get into the teeth of any of the gears?

I had to drive the car about 10 miles home after I heard the trans start to whine.
The nut has been off for a long time. The threads are completely mushroomed and shine like a new nickel.

I'm surprised. I looked over the gears really good. I didn't see anything alarming. I'm going to clean this thing up, get another bearing installed and get the car back on the road.

Cool! I'll buy it! I need the thick washer, the peened washer and the nut also if you have it. Call me ASAP.

Ya, It sounded like an old truck transmission. How did you fix yours? Just replace the one bearing?
My transaxle was rebuilt by Brad Mayeur. I've driven to the WCR in SoCal twice, Atomic Ramble in Huntsville, MEI in Hershey and RRC in Fruita CO. With 350+hp and 255/50/16 rear tires fighting the loss of traction I more than got my money's worth.
I was going to ship it back to Brad but I have been too busy to pull it out of the car. I checked the calendar and I'm running out of time to ship it, have it repaired and shipped back to install in the car before Sept. 7th when I have to leave for the RRC in Moab. So with the help of Dr. Evil's video I'm going to under take this adventure.

I ended up using donor parts to put it together. The PO had put the washer on upside down so the lock tab, that slides in the shaft, didn't keep it from turning the nut off! I put in some good syncros and swaped 1st & 5th dog teeth and reassembled!
