One of the best, if not the best article in Excellence I have ever read. Best of luck in the sale. BUMP.

Why?

This seems almost like being married to the woman of your dreams, getting along for 20 yrs, and selling her off to the Russian mafia.

What could you come up with that could possibly be cooler, better, or more deadly at its chosen activity?

David, Very nicely put! After reading your comment, I had to ask myself the same question. It's just that I've done everything with the car that can be done. I truly love the car and it would tear me up to sell it but I do not seeing myself running it in the near future. I like a challenge and I've started another project. It's a street legal/auto-x combo 914 with a 3.2. It's not nearly as fast as the one posted here. If it sells.....OK. If not....still OK! I'm sure I would regret selling it in time. We'll see what happens.

Heh, heh, yes I did and when all was said & done, got more for it & all the "stuff"
than I was asking....and more than you offered. Selling "stuff" in chunks worked out well but I could have done better parting it out. The buyer sold the motor alone for 8K
then all the 914 6 conversion "stuff" for a bunch more. This nearly covered the price for an infusion of Subi HP (about 70hp & 70 ftlbs ....stock motor numbers).

In case you missed it:

Of course he can no longer run in the Parade....but he has bigger fish to fry.

Good luck with your sale. So, now whatcha' gonna do?

Bobby Smith
Wow, that's quite a conversion. Running in XP or EM?

My 2.8 E/M car listed here is done and it's still the faster auto-x car in the world aktion035.gif and I love the car but last year I started looking for a different kind of challenge. I wanted a street legal lethal auto-x car so I've been running a 3.2 conversion car. Greg Fordhal built this beast a while back. It's quite strong. Obviously not as fast as the E/M car but I can drive it to the events. Glad your sale worked out so well for you.
PeeGreen 914
I remember when Greg built that car. It was WAY too much car for the guy who had it built.

Sweet car aktion035.gif
J P Stein
Brit put in a 2.0L ( 2.0x1.4=2.8) to get into XP with only a minimal weight gain requirement....bout 22 lbs.

Not Too much for me! smilie_pokal.gif

I'm getting ready to fit 8 and 9x15's with 225 and 275 Hoosier A-6's.

Meanwhile bump for my 2.8 beast!
PeeGreen 914
Yeah, it wouldn't be for a real driver but the guy who had it built wasn't a driver.

Good luck on the sale. Car looks like a lot of fun.

The car that inspired my 914 addiction. I spoke to you at an autocross (possibly ACU4) and ended up selling my WRX and buying a 914.

Good luck with your sale. This is really an amazingly fast car!

Well, there may be some truth to that line of thinking. However, this 914 is so fast
that someone could drive it a 8/10ths and still whoop everyone. I regularly put 3-4 secs on EVERYONE.
Yes, I bought the six from a guy in Michigan. He bought it from the fellow that had Greg F. build it. I've got receipts that total over $70K for the build.
Bobby Smith
Still available! smilie_pokal.gif

Yes he did. Receipts show $60,000 spent at Fordahl Motorsports which did NOT include the price of the "donor car". The donor was very nice to start with. He then sold it to the guy I bought it from. That gentleman spent another $10,000 in 915 box with all of the Wevo tricks and L/S among other things. Needless to say, it's a killer car and very well built.

Meanwhile, I just can't figure out why my Black Beast has not sold. It's blindingly fast and I feel the lowered price is fair? Offers?
BajaXJ92
Bobby,

I figured you were on this forum, but never took the time to look. I never even knew you owned this car as I didn't see it at your house last time.

I picked up a '71 recently, not sure if you've seen me around town.

Its my daily driver since I sold that Land Rover. Wouldn't mind grabbin a beer soon and picking your brain about the plans/ideas I've got for the car.

Planning on making it to this event on the 27th if you're game for a 914 caravan: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=134816

Bobby Smith,

Your 914 is beautiful, fast, reasonably priced & a magazine featured car. That being said, I can't figure out why it didn't sell. confused24.gif

Hope you don't mind me asking our 914-World experts, WHY????
I can only think of a few reasons.
#1 Small market for a fully sorted race car??
#2 Maybe, more buyers if it had a stock front windshield??
#3 914-World buyers are cheap?? av-943.gif
#4 Advertise in Pano, Hemmings, or consignment with high end broker.
#5 ?? headbang.gif

Merry Christmas & keep the faith it's a beautiful 914. pray.gif

Tom (a street guy only)

Bobby Smith
Tom, interesting observation. I think that cars like mine have a limited market. Everyone loves a 914 that has stretched the boundaries like mine but few have the ambition to get behind the wheel and exploit those boundaries. It's a hard core enthusiast car to say the least. If it does not sell, I'm considering mounting a new set of slicks and slaying a few dragons in 2012.
EdwardBlume
Imho it's a lousy time to sell a race car. Ive got a nice competitive /6 id sell for 12k but what's the point? You can't build it for that. Nice car bad market... Wait it out.

Autocross season is right around the corner. Are YOU ready? I've got your FTD weapon.

Hay, Bobby.
You can claim "worlds fastest 914" as you are on the left coast.
Were you to come to the right the issue would be in doubt. biggrin.gif

The price issue is an other item. When I was selling the shitbox I was not confident of selling it for my asking price. I sat down with a pad & pencil and parted it out
using my knowledge of the Porsche & 914 market for parts. I came up to over the asking price ($22K for the whole works) *just for the parts of the car* and still had the chassis (figuratively) still settin' there.....not to mention the truck, trailer and (as it turned out) about $4K of
tools & miscellaneous bits.

As it turned out Brit bought the car, trailer & extra wheels/tires only ($20K). He parted out about 80% (WAG) of the removable bits while doing his version of an AX car. HE MADE MONEY.
My estimates were low. He got $8k for the motor that I was figuring at $6k (bout what I had into it).

The point here is while the prices for race cars is pretty well shot, the used parts biddness is still going whole hog......plus you needed a bump. biggrin.gif

On the other hand, Bobby is selling a turn key racing package. I don't know race cars but I am familiar with sales. As soon as you remove the motor, you change it from a known product to something else. Brit sold parts from a six (I know, I bought some of them) and that engine could go into a 911 or 914. I don't think a 911 guy will buy Bobby's four. Bobby is also dealing with an east coast winter. Not as bad this year as most but most east coasters hibernate this time of the year. Its always a bad time of the year to sell most any outdoor sport item except snow sports. I thought about buying his car but I really won't have weekends to myself until both my kids are away at school. I REALLY like that car!
J P Stein
Winter time is build time. Mine spent most of it's winters on blocks. I wasn't comparimg the 2 cars, (tho mine was a turnkey set up also) just the situation.

Enjoy those parts in good health.
Bobby Smith
"On the other hand, Bobby is selling a turn key racing package"

Yes, turn key package with HISTORY and PROVENANCE. Also a "magazine car" in Excellence June 09 issue. I've owned this car nearly 30 years. At this time there are only 56 cars that have ever taken FTD at a Porsche Parade. 1956-2011. This IS one of those cars. Some were repeat winners so actually less than 56. As far as World's Fastest 914 autocross car...well in July 2008 at Charlotte Motor Speedway I had that. This car shares history with cars driven by Alan Johnson, Bruce Jennings, Ron Mistak, Gary Walton, Greg Fordahl etc. etc. Like Dizzy Dean said, "It's not braggin if you done it".
NO WAY this car will be parted out. It's winner, a beast, it's my friend and a terror to all that have come up against it in vain. Who knows why it has not sold but something inside me is happy about that. It's in storage now (I start it regularly) and it's kinda like having a loaded gun in the dresser draw. Always ready to slay. It would be a sad day for me if someone buys it. I have actually considered bring it out of retirement but I am enjoying the new challenge of autocrossing my 914/6 3.2 at this time.
Well.... my hand is getting tired from patting myself on the back so I'll close with some photos of PCA's perpetual award for Fastest Time. Take note of some of the names. THIS is HISTORY my friends.
