*not really coasting, I "thought" I was okay to let the compression of the engine slow me down????
It's
never OK to coast at an autoX. (Of course, there are exceptions to all rules...) You should either be accelerating as much as you can, braking as much as you can, or using the throttle and/or brakes to change the balance of the car and where it is heading. And sometimes you're doing all of this at once!
You have to work on not being scared of your car. Or at least,
I had to work on not being scared of your car up at Reno at the WCW. I failed, too--I was definitely still scared of it at the end. But I could leave the pedal down longer than you could, and trust to that thing's magnificent brakes to keep it from going all pear-shaped... I also had a hell of a time fighting the understeer in the car at that event, my approach to the corners was all wrong for it.
...Damn, that's a car with fierce acceleration!!
