Hey Mueller, got beat by Britain's 1.7 ? wavey.gif

Britain was FAST - very impressive watching him straightline and WOT through the little 'box' chicane that Rob put on the second part of the course.

Britains car:

No sway bars. Lowered in a driveway. Aligned in a driveway. New front shocks. Old rear shocks. 140 rate LINEAR rear springs. Semi sticky street tires. I have most of the newbies out on the Falken Azenia's right now. They are giving up almost 2 seconds to the Kuhmo's and probably 3 seconds to the Hoosiers. I want them to run on the Azenia's until Sept or so. After 6-8 events I will switch them over to Kuhmo's.

Great job everyone clap56.gif

Yea, I must say that I had a blast. I am really starting to enjoy pushing that little 1.7L around the course. I am starting to learn that without HP, I have to keep my foot on it and brake just enough to get around the corner. The car needs a bit on the suspension side, but I am having fun right now. Multiple people were saying that the car was leaning so much that my head was hanging out the side. I guess that I am in need of some way bars and a professional alignment. I will let everyone know that after I ran that 49.5, I had the biggest grin on my face and actually felt like I was getting faster. Expect to see me at the rest of the events both for LPR and GGR this year.

I wish my car didn't overheat so bad.

I actually stopped once on the way home because oil temps were getting into the 250 range. Had to wait 20 mins for it to cool off to 220.

The autocross was generally ok because I had time while the other group was running to cool off fully. As long as I started my group of runs around 180 degrees I would be below 240 by the time I finished. But each run was raising my oil temp 10-15 degrees. It was taking my attention away from driving because I was worried about the car.

I am building a 2056 to "cure" this problem, but the 2056 build is taking 10x longer than expected with no end in sight. I am starting to consider fixing the 1.7 so it won't grenade before I am finished with it.

*not really coasting, I "thought" I was okay to let the compression of the engine slow me down????

It's never OK to coast at an autoX. (Of course, there are exceptions to all rules...) You should either be accelerating as much as you can, braking as much as you can, or using the throttle and/or brakes to change the balance of the car and where it is heading. And sometimes you're doing all of this at once!

You have to work on not being scared of your car. Or at least, I had to work on not being scared of your car up at Reno at the WCW. I failed, too--I was definitely still scared of it at the end. But I could leave the pedal down longer than you could, and trust to that thing's magnificent brakes to keep it from going all pear-shaped... I also had a hell of a time fighting the understeer in the car at that event, my approach to the corners was all wrong for it.

...Damn, that's a car with fierce acceleration!!

Andy, well the difference between the car you are driving and the car I drive at the auto x right now is about 250hp.. lol

I cant keep my foot on the gas for very long. (and I havent learned how to left foot brake.. besides, the rear loves to come around, and I havent quite learned how to correct it 100%..)

Every time I go to an auto x, Im running different tires..

Hmm, I'll see what dad says about this weekend, I may see you guys. (golden gate fields.. wheres that? link?)

but the same concept applies for both.

like our very own damp dave said, you should be either on the gas or on the brake or both, at all times. no coasting ...

driving.gif i'd probably kill myself if i had 250 more horses laugh.gif

I was definitely coasting a lot. It felt like the more throttle I gave it the more I would understeer off the course and not turn in... Ok, I suck. pissoff.gif
Andyrew
Im learning. Its hard to not coast, while going through a corner feeling the hoosers letting go... I guess you just cant buy used hoosers (grrr) And since you cant really hear when their letting go... I really dont like flat spotting hoosers anyways.. lol..

I've got a card, the right date, and all the times. It looks like he ran the AM and split. He was in the "B" group, car#423. Did anyone catch him running?
richardL
It was a grey 914 - I mentioned him to B at lunch and we couldn't find him - I don't recall seeing him run in the PM

Nope. Albert ran one GGR event last year with a Bp 914. He was pretty fast (9th overall). But I still beat him by over 2 seconds! smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif
