Voting Time is here

This is the Time for the Owners of the Cars to tell us a little more about their cars. Also the Nominator to tell us why you think the car deserves the Title

This is NOT the time to debate 4 vs 6, why there should be a contest Every Month instead of 2, why the West Coast is Better than the East, Why 3 Lights in the Sky are better than 10, etc

Voting is Open for 10 Days

As usual, we all have a tough choice to make - 5 Great Cars first.gif

T.C.
RJMII
I nominated Eric's car because a) it looks good. b) he has jumped right in with this 914 community and has contributed time and effort to help out with events. c) The snow pic just rocks the Rockies, even if its the Western Slope.

Car #1, Jeeper John--Bingo! Love that stock look--nice front valence and not even a Porshe badge sneaked on that hood. Well done, Sir.

#4 was a tempting though--very tastefully done and a terrific look.

I really want to hear more from the owners of these incredible cars. They all rate at least a 9.5 on a scale of 10 and I need details to separate them. I think this is the toughest call yet.

Yea, I'm a little partial to that L80E. beerchug.gif

Not only did Bob & Nadine run the Targa, they slid on Ice, Flipped, Crashed, had the car repaired and Finished !

Then they restored Huey to todays stature

They are both heavily involved in PCA - Bob is a Zone Rep & Nadine is on the Tech Team @ PCA Races

Hey all
Wow! Didn't even know Huey made the list. Thanks!!

For all the details of Huey, go to www.naroescapemotorsports.com, click on Cars, then the picture of Huey.

But basically, Nadine and I wanted to run Targa Newfoundland together, after I had run for two years with Casey Holzman in his 911. We've always had Papa Smurf as a race car, so it was natural for us to build a 914 to run.
We started out with a rough body, no engine or interior, and a transmissin sitting in the passengers seat. We stripped everything out, and built basically what he looks like now.
Year 1 of Targa for us, we finished tied for 10th overall out of somethign like 73 cars!
Year 2...disaster. TC posted some pictures of the wreck, there are more on our website...and the story to go along with it. We flipped end over end (front to back). Nobody was hurt but Huey...

So, we figured we would put a cover on him, and leave him for a while. But no.... We were having dinner with Prescott Kelly, then PCA National President as the EC was visiting Charlotte for meetings for the 2008 Parade, and Prescott kept saying we HAD to have Huey at Parade, Just HAD TO! Well, that was Nov of 2007, Parade was the end of June 2008. You see the damage...well, with the help of Bill Dunster owner of Autobahn Collision (also a 914 owner, who helped us build him in the first place, and our crew at Targa), Huey just barely made Parade (we were installing the engine on Saturday night for the Sunday car corral).

Since then, Huey has undergone all kinds of upgrades. He now has a very nice 3.2 engine, and I've started to make him a little more comfortable to use more daily. Those of you in the Southeast know we take Huey EVERYWHERE, to all the events all over. As TC mentioned, I am the Zone 3 Rep for PCA (Southeast), so part of my duties is to visit all 14 of my regions. We normally take Huey and drive him everywhere.

I'm not one to campaign for votes, I believe things speak for themselves. But after all the blood, sweat and tear (many, many tears) that have gone into this little car, it would be an honor to win a place among the previous COTM wnners.

I've attached a few more pictures. the first one was how Bill got us actually running for us to drive across town to the ceremonial finish at Targa! Seriously...look at those wrecked pictures, and look a this one...after 3 days of beating and banging...
Second one is from last years Hurricane Region winery tour.
Third one is from MUSR11 on Tail of the Dragon.

it took me 10 minutes to vote. I really like Elvira and computer4kids v8 execution but I am a racer at heart. hats off to the targa runner
naro914
FYI, Huey is now also being run more and more in AX. Got 2nd fastest time of day in November at a huge AX course. Going to do more of that now.
Rod
Wow the voting is close!

Took me a long time too, all of these cars deserve to win really - Can a couple of the losers be resubmitted next month as I think it's going to be a close race and I would like to see more than one as the COTM. I love Huey as the poor fella has been through so much and still looks spot on. I also love CFC's V8 and the Vegasracer is just badness in automotive form.... If I could I'd vote for all five, but I hope to see whicever cars loose back here next month..
KELTY360
My vote is for Huey.....a true warrior 914.

What are those in front of the car....desk clocks made from headlights?
Very cool.
carr914
I believe those are Awards from Red Rocks or WCR
Sleepin
Those were awards for RRC 2009 that I had made. They were like this one, but with a different RRC09 face. Perhaps a winner will post a pic of his. wink.gif

I gotta say, usually there is one or two cars that come out as clear favorites. Not the case with this month! This is a sweet line up.

But, after seeing this pic, I can't sway from Elvira! Knowing the abuse that car takes and how good it looks while doing it is just drooley.gif .

This should be framed and on a wall.

Good Contest so far, keep the Votes coming.

Question is - will Sleepin get some extra Votes on his Birthday? birthday2.gif
naro914
just for reference, here's how Huey started when we got him:

Other than paint and body work, Nadine and I did much/most of the work to build him the first time, then rebuild him the second time. Nadine spent weeks completely disassembling everything down to just a chassis. Her meticulous engineer mind bagged and tagged everything so it was easier to rebuild. (easy is relative).
He's come a long way....
zx-niner
I was torn between Vegasracer and Computers4kids. They are both perfect cars. But Mark (Computers) has taken his car eaxactly where I am trying to get mine so he gets my vote.
SGB
I'm voting for all of 'em.
computers4kids
another shameless plug...

When I bought this car some three years ago in Oregon, I think there was more parts inside the car and piled around it than actually bolted to it. My friend Jamie and Coy helped me load it on a tow dolly to be hauled backt to CA. I know what they were thinking...what-a-piece of... stromberg.gif but they graciously just smiled and we shoved it on the trailer. beer.gif

It too under went a full body strip inside and out and makeover, eventually it was ready for a new life.

I laugh everytime I see this picture from Willow Springs. The car had just got put back together after getting painted and the motor had about 200 miles on it (crate new bulit SBC with all the roller goodies etc). And here I was on the tracks of Willow, WCR2009. Funny thing was, it looks like I was leading the pack, but the thruth was...I had never been on an AX track before and was taking it fairly easy in the turns, then opening it up on the straights. What a way to break a motor in... biggrin.gif Look who is directly behind me...yup, laugh.gif

And I thought it was fast then...nothing like a little dyno tuning to wake-up the beast inside.
