I really want to hear more from the owners of these incredible cars. They all rate at least a 9.5 on a scale of 10 and I need details to separate them. I think this is the toughest call yet.
Hey all
Wow! Didn't even know Huey made the list. Thanks!!
For all the details of Huey, go to
www.naroescapemotorsports.com, click on Cars, then the picture of Huey.
But basically, Nadine and I wanted to run Targa Newfoundland together, after I had run for two years with Casey Holzman in his 911. We've always had Papa Smurf as a race car, so it was natural for us to build a 914 to run.
We started out with a rough body, no engine or interior, and a transmissin sitting in the passengers seat. We stripped everything out, and built basically what he looks like now.
Year 1 of Targa for us, we finished tied for 10th overall out of somethign like 73 cars!
Year 2...disaster. TC posted some pictures of the wreck, there are more on our website...and the story to go along with it. We flipped end over end (front to back). Nobody was hurt but Huey...
So, we figured we would put a cover on him, and leave him for a while. But no.... We were having dinner with Prescott Kelly, then PCA National President as the EC was visiting Charlotte for meetings for the 2008 Parade, and Prescott kept saying we HAD to have Huey at Parade, Just HAD TO! Well, that was Nov of 2007, Parade was the end of June 2008. You see the damage...well, with the help of Bill Dunster owner of Autobahn Collision (also a 914 owner, who helped us build him in the first place, and our crew at Targa), Huey just barely made Parade (we were installing the engine on Saturday night for the Sunday car corral).
Since then, Huey has undergone all kinds of upgrades. He now has a very nice 3.2 engine, and I've started to make him a little more comfortable to use more daily. Those of you in the Southeast know we take Huey EVERYWHERE, to all the events all over. As TC mentioned, I am the Zone 3 Rep for PCA (Southeast), so part of my duties is to visit all 14 of my regions. We normally take Huey and drive him everywhere.
I'm not one to campaign for votes, I believe things speak for themselves. But after all the blood, sweat and tear (many, many tears) that have gone into this little car, it would be an honor to win a place among the previous COTM wnners.
I've attached a few more pictures. the first one was how Bill got us actually running for us to drive across town to the ceremonial finish at Targa! Seriously...look at those wrecked pictures, and look a this one...after 3 days of beating and banging...
Second one is from last years Hurricane Region winery tour.
Third one is from MUSR11 on Tail of the Dragon.
