Here's a pic of the hell hole (TS, "dr."). On a stock car this area cannot be seen.....too much crap in the way....with a double jointed forearm it cam be felt tho.
That trough formed by the fwd firewall, engine shelf, and inner fender collects shittage in a big way....including water and acid washed off the battery top......even with the so called drain clear. Gravity takes care of the rest.
Here in the NW, that is THE single biggest killer of 914s, IMO. I've prolly looked/felt(?) at 50 914s herebouts. Maybe a handful were solid(I bought one of those). The rest had sucking chest wounds in the top of the longitudinal. The opposite side is the same, but since no battery acid is present (and access is somwhat better) it holds up much better.
