Hello,
I'm considering a set of polished cookie cutter wheels (I love the looks of them and they're not that common) and was wondering if I would be better off playing it safe getting a 6 inch set, or will a 7 inch set work? My car does NOT have flaired fenders and I'm not considering putting them on in the near future.
How much backspacing room do I have in there? I'll check to see what the backspacing is on the wheels.
Thanks for any info...

they will fit but you will have to tweek the fender lips, camber, etc.
may not be worth it on a street car.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my fender lips are already rolled. At least, when I reach under there, I can't feel any inner fender lip.
Someone must've had wider wheels on it sometime in the past...?

I have 6" cookies and they fit. The 7" variety will stick out 1" more
since the backspacing is the same.
I am of the opinion that 7" wheels are unlikely to fit without
significant fender stretching. That is, if you want 205 or wider
tires and not too much camber. (in rear)

Could be... But also, on the later cars the rear fender lip was shorter and didn't poke into the wheel wells as far.
I think you should get 6" ones just to be on the safe side. 7s are very "iffy", and depend on the exact amount of backspacing of the wheel and on the particular 914's construction.
...Heck, fitting 205s on 5.5" wide rims under stock fenders is by no means a guarantee!

where are you getting your wheels from?
e-bay or your local PCA chapter is the best place to look for wheels.
if you call one of the auto-breakers, you will pay alot more for the same thing. I have done it both ways for fuchs and cookies.

Everybody has their own opinions...
but I'll spew mine here: 7inch cookies won't fit most stock fenders.. even rolled.... I know all 914's are a bit different from car to car... but 7inch cookies did not fit on either of my 2 914's that I run them on now...
I had to flare both cars.
6inchers are VERY likely to fit.

I have 7's and 205-50's all around, but they are custom HRE's

I'm also looking for suggestions on widest wheel/tire combo with out flares. Poschenut could you help with what offset your combo has? Any help would be appreciated.
