Full Version: Rebuilding shift console: quick questions

I have taken apart my stock shift console and found one item that could be causing a huge headache for these shifters.

There is a small pin that allows the shifter ball joint to pivot.

You can see it in the picture here on the left:

So this pin is worn out and out of round as well as being very loose in its "socket".
It would be a little difficult to replace for the average DIY-er as the bracket that holds it in is brazed in place.

Has anyone replaced this pin?
I am guessing a welded "bung" and a threaded pin with backup nut would solve the problem.

Also in the pic, see the "dimple" in the hole for the shifter on the right?
Is that supposed to be there, or did this one get dropped?

I can't help with the pin but that dimple is suppose to be there.

That plate is only on the earlier shifters. Later shifters ditched it. Also, that plate is supposed to be spot welded into place. That one had broken off and someone repaired it.

Get a new shifter. thumb3d.gif
