Played bass for Carlos in the earyly sixties. Flew to London and sat in on Bass when Paul wanted to play keyboard. Did lots of stuff for the Stones in the seventies (they don't have a regular bass guy). Look for my name on some of the early albums. Toured with Rod Stewart in '76 but he fired my ass. The guy is a real dick! Played with C S N & Y. Niel Young has the worst voice ever.

I'm still trying to be a guitar player. I'd be happy if I was as good a player as my guitars are to instruments.

I'm with a part time cover band right now, but we only do about one gig a month and so far it's been for private parties, which is much better than bars.
ripper911
I played violin and double bass in school. 1st chair on both.
Played bass in a metal band for a while.
I can play violin, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, and some on the piano.
Or anything with strings I guess. biggrin.gif
But... My good cello and bass guitar were stolen. ar15.gif

I don't play enough lately.

Started playing keyboards in 57 at the age of 5. By 10 I was equipped with a VOX Jaguar and played a lot of silly stuff, but lessons was having me play a lot of Bach organ works.

By 66, I was playing in bands that eventually played a lot at Teendevous in Shrewsbury, and at Red Bank Catholic, Christian Brothers Academy (my old school), Monmouth College, and we opened several times for Bruce's band, Earth, and many times for Steven (now called Little Steven) and his band was named Flowers. They were smokin' hot, and Steven sang almost all the songs. I actually learned guitar by watching both Bruce and Steven, and my guitar player, Jack, who was possibly the best player of all in 1966-70.

Jack had drug issues, hence no last names. My bands were named Fresh, then we went country rock/country funk and changed our names to Buckwheat. I played only keyboards then, but we had a riotous time!

In college, at Seton Hall, Max was seemingly rooming across the hall in the Men's Dorm for a bit, along with Gene, Southside's bassist. John Hall (Not the Jon Hall NY State Congressional Rep! - ANOTHER John Hall) was lost to me in the corridors of time, but he was another SMOKIN' guitarist along with Dickie Orleans and there was always others hanging around teaching me many guitar licks. I mean MANY. They were very gracious and generous to me.

I left the NY/NJ scene for St. Louis, where I did not play out for 7 years from 81-88. We were having babies.

I took back to playing out in 1994. Never was rusty like a 914 floorpan, because I always practiced. A LOT.

Well, at this point at almost 60, I have a ton of guitars, keyboards, basses, and every amp you can imagine. I played a lot in a country band in the 90's as their bassist. Led and was led astray in many garage bands all my life.

Recorded a 6 song demo in NY that our drummer ripped off in 1980 due to coke deals gone bad, and the movie Babylon Pink has our songs. The first thing you hear at the opening of the movie is me singing.

Most of our music got onto that vile video. I am not proud of that, but it is hilarious to hear your own demo while squishy squealy is going on.

Otherwise, I have been a happy musician since 1957, because I make my living in satellites, not standing on a riser at Friday midnight trying to shake my fat ass and look very serious.

I shake my 914's asses instead!

I'm a mix engineer. I play bass, guitar, and even sing pretty well. And I can usually squeeze out 4 or 5 seconds of really solid drumming or keyboards before it all turns to stromberg.gif

Played in guitar in a few bands, one of them got some interest from Elektra. But after hearing play backs in the control room at Hyde Street Studios; I stopped worrying about sound quality in cars. After you’ve heard good; there’s no point in shooting rubber bands at the moon. So I tend not to get too over excited about everyone’s rave about their latest sound set up.
deloreandude86
Not really sure if I'd consider myself a musician, though I do love playing music. I was an awesome trombonist in High School, I also fiddle around with the Guitar, Keyboard, Banjo, and Bagpipes of all things! I love any kind of instrument though, these are just the ones I've had the pleasure of messin with.

The picture sucks, but it's me and my band director at my senior Christmas concert.

Played weekly until a year ago, mainly Bass and lead vocals but everything overall.

Have a nice studio at the house and a box trailer full of JBL speakers and Crown amps gathering dust in the pole barn smile.gif

Love Steinbergers! Have played a XL2T Bass for over 20 years. Finally was able to afford a Steinberger GL hard tail 6 string last year.

Worked for CBS in the early eighties was a final stage electronic tech for the Rhodes (Arp) Chroma (AMAZING analog synthesizer!!!) and Fender amps.

My Daughter is 21 has been playing Bass seance she was 15. She plays a Warwicks Thumb 4 string and a Corvette 5 string and she is amazing.

Like Rock and even some of the new heavier stuff

But I Love my 914 as well!!!
ottox914
I don't play guitar so much as I make noise. Hopefully it sounds like blues from time to time. Bit of a gear hog, but thinning out the inventory to get the 914 painted. Play a reverend slingshot thru a peavey delta blues 2/10.
Have a reverend hellhound amp that I'll be looking to sell one of these days, as well as a MIJ strat. Martin D15 and ovation 12 string guitars for when I don't want to plug in.
jim912928
I play the drums. Have a double base Mapex set. Have a late 60's ludwig blue sparkle set and also play a roland electronic set. Beating on them sure relieves the stress!

You can see my Dean bass in the above pics. It has active pickups and I play it through a 75watt Fender amp.

Not pictured is my cheapo Yamaha 6 acoustic that I have traveled the world with. It worked better than a passport in Russia where I played an impromptu gig on stage at a huge club with it smile.gif

Also not pictured is my Simmons electronic drum set.

My guitar amp is a Peavey Vypyr 120 tube amp with built in modulation and the Sanpera foot board. Pedal boards is personally autographed, to me, by the man himself, Heartly Peavey smile.gif

My lineup:

That's cool, Doc. My list from over the years is long and I'll have to hunt for pics of most of it. My amps were a Vox AC30, a Vox Super Beatle, Fender Bassman, Ampeg V4-B, a Fender Deluxe. All I've kept is the AC30.

Basses; '60 Gibson EB-O, '62 Fender P-bass, '65 Epiphone Rivoli, '69 Rickenbacker 4001, '68 Gretsch 6071. Guitars '62 Tele, '65 Epiphone Casino. All I've kept are the Rivoli, the Rickenbacker and the Tele.

Others came and went . . along with a good chunk of my memory.

The only pics I have on this computer is my Telecaster

Well since everyone posted pics of their axes, here's a couple of mine.

No pics of my amps though as they are in a climate controlled storage and mostly used for recording purposes. I mainly play through a Marshall but record through various vintage Fenders and boutique amps.

In order is a 90's Gibson J-30, '89 American Fender Deluxe+ Strat, 90's Les Paul, and a '72 Gibson ES-335.

MikeSpraggi
Played in the Mid-Atlantic quite a bit in the '70's .... good times. Did a little studio work but mostly played in clubs. Biggest thing back then was opening for the Grass Roots. Only played bass live and sang a lot of lead. We did a bunch of originals but also covered some Little Feat, Van Morrison, Taj Mahal even some Cab Calloway ... via Reffer Man!!

Wrote and still write songs on guitar and keyboards although I really don't play either one. I like to think of my songs as kind of a Funk 'n Roll although they can take on anything from a folk flavor all the way to hard rock. Played and wrote some Christian Rock/Gospel in the early 80's for about 5 years.

Started playing live again in the 90's with a project called Khanfusion. I think I'm only on the first CD, not sure. I'm doing some vocals there. Played at venues ranging from the Bayou, Birchmere and others. There's one appearance at Channel 5 on the Innerface Records web site, but I didn't make that one mad.gif.

I'm beginning to record some of those songs I wished I recorded years ago. Some were kinda very localized "hits" in the club scene, although no airplay.

Currenly playing a Squire by Fender MB-4 with Jazz bass-like head stock (haven't seen another one) a Squire by Fender Stratocaster, Samich OM-15CE acoustic and a Kawai K-4. Sold my "real" instruments some years ago (Gibson Les Paul Special, Guild B-301 Bass).

I have a nice library of originals I'm going to put down to leave my kids with something so they can see the most inner thoughts and artistic side of their dad.

Sorry to ramble on but I'm VERY passionate about music ... especially my own compositions.

3-tone sunburst, rosewood fretboard, 3-ply pickguard attached with 11 screws makes 1960 and up . . and the pre-CBS headstock makes it 1965 or below.

Or it's one beaten up reissue. Or if you want to drop mega-thousands the Fender Custom Shop will make you one just like it.

Drummer here! I've been playing since I was eight and spent many years on the road before I one day walked away for several years to "clean up" Recently started playing again and it feels great to get back on stage but this time I'll stick to beer and limited road work. I have a 40 year old money pit which seems as expensive as any addiction I've kicked.

Sweet. Now here's a question; your Telecaster (my favourite model BTW - love the double bound body) was it not officially called the Custom Telecaster vs. the Telecaster Custom (the version with the humbucker at the neck)?
Eric_Shea
Prior to 72, they were indeed "Custom Telecasters" as you see there, distinguished by the binding.

That said, for years people have referred to as "Tele Customs" (myself included obviously) but yes, officially they are different. Good eye.

I fricken love gear!

Y'all have some really cool guitars. That sunburst strat is amazing.

My first kit was a 68 slingerland. I bought it for 35.00 in 1977. I restored it about two years ago and it now resides up above the fireplace in our family room (house had these crazy big "cubbies" - worked out great). In 1981 I bought my first brand new kit - a Pearl. I have been a fan ever since. Have owned several other brands in my past, but always end up back on a pearl kit. I saved and saved for custom birdseye maple rootbeer fade DW kit in 1995. I was in the drum shop 4 monthes later just looking around and sat down behind a "low-end" Pearl ELX and was shocked at how much better the kick drum sounded compared to my DW. Put the DW up for sale that day. While I own several kits my other manfacturers, I will only play live on a Pearl (unless a show is backlined - but I have my trusty roll of black stage tape to fix that). Here are some in my current stash. I primarily play the green masterworks kit and the recently built up white "Tommy Lee" kit (it has a 32" kick! Ha!)

Post more gear!! Love it! pray.gif
Scott S
This is the one that got away. A CZX from the hair band days. I need to find another one - just not sure where I would put it or what I would do with it..... not to mention it would not have any of the memories attached to it either.

This is my kit - sitting in our local shop on consignment in 1998-9 or so. I think once it was all said and done, I ended up getting less than a grand for it. Makes me sick. barf.gif

I'm getting ready to release a new CD here in the next 6 months, just finishing up production work. Kind of a Lindsey Buckingham meets Green Day meets John Prine. blink.gif

Odd... I'm a Fender guy and I find a Strat one of the most difficult guitars to play (well). You really have to muscle the shit out of it to get it to talk back.

Over the years I owned too much to remember, but my favorites were the Hohner "Jack" bass (steinberger) in the picture of me and a Gibson L6S. Both I let go of and will always regret. Right now I have an Ibanez roadstar bass and a Hartley Peavey signatuire goldtop. I use a traynor bass amp now but I always used Fender BXR 300 to do gigs. I also threw in a pic of our CD cover from 1999. It was played on local radio a few times here in Sacramento. I miss performing live every time I see a band playing. My wife says I should start playing again. idea.gif

I don't consider myself a "musician" but I have been trying to play guitar most of my life. The only bar I play is the one in my house. That's where I keep my gear.

I'm glad to see other people are gear drunk too. I just pulled the trigger on a Lester last night so it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only junkie. I made a deal for an 05 Gibson LP Standard Faded. However, mostly I'm a Strat guy. Originally I picked up the MIJ (Fujigen) Epi Elitist goldtop to explore the dark side. Its easily comparable to Gibson quality. And in some ways surpasses it, at least at the entry to average Gibson pricepoints. Strat on the left is my 57/62 hybrid. It has an NLA genuine Fender made replacement 57 body with an 82 Fender JV 62 reissue slab board neck (no skunk stripe). The other Strat is a 95 plus deluxe. (Good to see the other Strat plus players here.) Also you can see my prized Fender Vibroverb Custom amp with Cesar Diaz SRV mods. That amp has no practical purpose for me. Its way more than I need, but I love when the house is empty and that thing is on 7! The 2nd pic is the LP Standard Faded I haven't even received yet. I guess the Epi has convinced me that LP's can coexist with Strats. stones.gif

I have others, but these are the nicest.

BTW Scott, I love the Vistalites. A friend of mine has the same Bonham set.
