finally got to drive the car after way too long. new engine, 2270, new seats, new synchros, new wheels, ATS and tires,Nittos, but somewere I lost 4th and 5th gear put in a rennshift shifter also. so what happened? It shift into those gears but it is like I am in nuteral.

I'm guessing side to side adjustment in your shift linkage...
its underneath the shifter, yours is not allowing the shifter plane to adjust over far enough...
I think there is a tech article somewhere...

Might want to check the conical linkage bolts under the car.................................. The Cap'n

That happened to me. Check that all the set screws on the shift linkage joints are tight (shift knukle at firewall and the at the transmission end of the linkage. Mine backed out about 1 turn, lost 4th & 5th. I locktited them back in with locktite blue. No problems since then.

haynes has a procedure that describes this....
acces hole in center tunnel, rotate the tunnel shift rod and retightten the screw. makes it all better
