Im attempting to remove the fan from the alternator and it looks to me like i use the allen bolt to hold the shaft and turn the fan bolt counterclockwise? Im torquing it very hard and it wont budge so i figured id ask before i break something

Nope... it's just pressed on the shaft
There's a slot in the both the shaft and the fan for a cotter pin thingy (dunno the right english word, sorry) that keeps the fan from rotating on the shaft
It can be on there pretty tight
You can use a rubber mallet to tap the shaft and try to wiggle the fan off
Just be gentle and patient

Jeoren nailed it. The fan is semi pressed onto the shaft. Some come off easy.. others are a pain in the neck.
