So what does that relay operate?
I know the CAT itself is not electric.
Is it related to the box on the passenger floor that trips the light?

the box in the PAX foot well is a mile counter. the speedo cable goes thru it. it triggers the EGR service light every 30,000 miles
The sensor which controls the catalytic converter
temperature is bolted directly to the catalytic
converter and is connected to this relay, which is
located next to the left taillight housing.
sean_v8_914
this also triggers the CAT high temp warning light next to the tach

Doesn't control, just measures. The sensors are usually burned up, I've been unsuccessful finding a replacement.

So it attaches here?

sean_v8_914
that paragraph is cut and paste from factory manual so if its wrong, talk to wofgang or Hans
sean_v8_914
the sensor goes in teh cat where your plug cap is. the relay lives in teh rear trunk under teh left tail light biased toward the center. the sensor completed the relay circuit to trigger teh light on the dash next to the tach. I tried to paste a pic...
sean_v8_914
the sensor is a bi-metallic switch. Mc Master Carr has them. the question is: what temperature do we need to complete the circuit to trigger teh relay? at what temp is a CAT too hot?
914work
So that port is on the muffler section on the inlet side of the CAT, not on the CAT itself.
The Port for the EGR feed pipe is on the Outlet side just before the final section & tailpipe.
From what I understand shouldn't excessive cat temps be measured at the output, which would indicate too much un-burned hydrocarbons?

Sweet. Always wondered what that was on my 75

Hey Admins, perhaps this should be moved to the Garage since it has turned into a more informational/discussion thread than an classified ad?

If thats OK with the Geezer?
