One of my roommates has a mild obsession with LED's and has been trying to convince me to swap out all possible lights in the 914 with LED's.

Has anyone done a full on LED conversion on every single light, gauges included?

Does swapping to LED's require major work?

Also, does anyone have any experience with HID's in the Hi/Lows and Fogs?

You can burn out the flasher relay with LED's. Some flashers will work fine. The difference is the lamp internal resistance. If you add a 4 ohm resistor to the lamp input, you will trick the flasher into thinking a standard buld is connected.

The big problem with HID's is the lens required to prevent blinding oncomming traffic. You need a parobolic lens with upper light diverter. This keeps the oncomming traffic (like the police) from being effected by the light. H4 halogen conversions should not be used on a 7" round lens.

I run LED gauges converted by AL in the members section. Night and day difference in visibility, and much better upgrade than just swapping out the gauge bulbs to LED units. His thread is here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=100721

I also run LED fog-lights from JW Speaker that have hi/low function.

They work well as headlights, but are not as bright as HID headlights that I had previously.

Try going to http://www.superbrightleds.com/

You can get LED replacement lights, resistors and LED ready blinkers.

I am using LEDs in my gauge cluster. WAY more visible at night, but not blinding. the stock bulbs were so dim I could barely read them. The ones I got (from Mikey914, I think) were direct plug in bulbs.

That is my issue with the gauge cluster...I hate not being able to read gauges at night.

Yes I do have the LEDs for the dash, you do NOT want to replace gen light as it is actually part of the charging system. The bulbs run $1.95 each. I have replacement bulbs for the side markers, front and rear turn signals, as well as the running light and side markers. I'm converting my car to clear lenses so LEDs are a must. It's bck from paint but I have to go through and figure out where all the wires go. Just haven't had time.

I checked out JWSpeaker and they don't seem to have prices on anything. How do I check prices or order???

Curt, I would like to check out your gauge cluster to see the LED bulbs

I got my JW Speaker LED lights here: http://www.tlg-auto.com/default.asp?m=0

If you can't find the model you want on their website, just email their customer support. The guy that runs it was awesome.
