I'm finally getting around to checking a noise I had throughout WCR. I want to take the alternator belt off and run the engine to find out if it's the bearing or not. How long can I run the engine with the belt off? Can I drive a bit without damaging something?

If it's a T4, you can run it til the battery quits. The fan is on the crank, the belt just runs the alternator. Driving it would be OK as long as you get home before the battery dies (or have AAA on speed dial).

Thanks, that's what I figured but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

You will get about 70 miles with the lights on, etc. before the battery quits. Driving during the day only and everything possible off, you get about a week or more.

How do I know????
