sounds like rust issues, check longs and hell hole.

Cal, do not drive your car. It is likely rusted to the point of being unsafe.

You need to pull the rockers off the side of the car, pull the battery out and look under the battery and down towards the firewall. Clean all the leaves and dirt out and probe with a screwdriver. But if your car flexes when you shut the door, you probably have very serious rust issues and the car is unsafe.
Please check it out.
Sorry to be a downer.

They say Christine is unsafe but I still drive her anyway. driving.gif

this just might be that over the years people have hung on the the windsheild header to pull them selves up and out of the car and have bent the header down a bit.

there is a test called "the big butt test" to check how bad the longs flex and that is to load a couple a big boys [southern style of big boys over 200lbs] in the car and see how bad the door gaps close up and see if you can shut the door or open the door with the big boys in there.

It's easier than that.

Measure the door gap at the top and bottom of the passenger door, back the right rear wheel up on a curb (right rear wheel only), measure the door gaps as well as open and close the passenger door.

If the gaps move more than 1/8, you have problems. If you can't open or close the door, you have major problems.

He lives in England. That 1/8 inch is about 3.18 mm. Hope that helps.

Err. If he's in England probably using the inch. We got it from them after all.

Is there a way to adjust the vent windows up or down?
PancakePorsche
My 76 does the same since I replaced all the seals and my car is absolutely rust free. I minimized it by adjusting windows and vent window angle to set pre-load. Pillar deflects about 2mm forward.

checked the door gaps and they seem fine, checked underneath the floor area and that is rock solid as well .looked in the battery tray area and there was no sign of any rust so may be theres no sagging what do you guys think
VaccaRabite
This is great news!
FourBlades

I'd still take the rocker panels off and check that area.

It has a tendency to collect dirt and could probably use a cleaning anyway.

I have new rubber in my car. The window corners fit snug up against the seals. It's somewhat normal, but I would make sure that you do not have any sag issues.
Mike Bellis
My tub is bent below the A pillar on both sides. The DAPO welded the cage and bracing too hot. This makes my wing window hit the A pillar when closing AND it looks like the doors sag slightly in the rear. I have no rust issues either.

The car was a purpose built race car at the time of the welding. It tracks straight and true. Handles perfect and predictable. I drive it and enjoy it. One day... I will cut the cage out and make it un-bent. Until then... I drive... Flat out... happy11.gif
