Is 12 initial + 16 advance limit and grey-grey springs the most effective curve for a carbed 2056? Mine was set up with 16 limit and orange-grey springs and instructions to set 12 degrees initial. According to the Mallory curves my set-up will delay the advance a few hundred rpms and the low end advance ramps up slower than a grey-grey set-up. Is my set-up costing me some low end performance?

Go grey grey. That is what I ran in my 2056 and it was great.

With the grey grey springs, the way to delay onset of advance is to bent the tabs which the springs are attached to.
