I am replacing the front seal on my transmission and noticed that the seal that I got from aa is different than the one that is there. The old seal has an extra safety edge to stop it from falling inside the transmission ( see picture ) the new one does not. Is it safe to use it?

Your new one looks like the ones in my rebuild kits. I haven't had any issues.

Yes. The older seals has that extra lip. The new seal is pretty much what you get today (such as from the EK seal kit).

I've never had a problem with the old ones. Do hit it so flipping hard you knock it in.

Just install the new one to almost flush. You want it in far enough to not interfere with the TOB guide tube. The rubber on the outside will scrape off a little and bulge at the perimeter. This is normal, but grease the outside of the seal to help minimize this and to make installation easier.
