Ok...so I did a search and couldnt find alot of info about using a cable shifter? Im working again on the V8 Car and would prefer a cable shifter. Anyone make a kit? or anyone know exactly what it would take?

Ive looked at Boxster and the MR2 as the actual shifter, but am confused as to how to design the transaxle end?

Anyone have links to anything that might help?

Thanks,

Steve

Been looking at the cableshift.com shifter but couldnt find a photo of the actual shifter? How high does it raise the shifter? Is there a way to modify the stock console to work?

The shifter is on cables. You could raise or lower it to fit your needs. In most cases, it bolts to the transmission tunnel. The transmission console must get modified for the cable to pass through. If you are handy, you could make your own but it will take a little R&D on your part. I made one with a Fiero shifter. It worked pretty well but if I were to do it again, I would buy the cable shift kit. For my current build, I'm using a Boxster shifter...

I know McMark was working on a solution/kit for the 901 at some point. I don't know how far he got with it.

He *will* be doing a cable shifter setup for a 915 pretty soon. Because i'm going to pay him to do so.

I wish McMark would chime in here....LOL

I built a cable shifter for my tail shift trans and couldn't be happier. I don't think a side shift is hugely different. It completely changes the way the car drives.

Here is a link to my build, it has some vids showing linkage and driving.

Please let me know if I can help at all. This was my favorite project I have done on my car.

Hey SirAndy,
I was wondering if your buddy McMark is making any progress on his cable shifter for the 915. I'm beginning to research a shifter solution myself. I have a buddy of mine (engineer), that I'm talking with about maybe using a master and slave hydraulic solution. Is McMark's handle McMark?
Thanks.
Dino

Yes, that's his user name.

And no, no progress as of yet, which is 100% my fault and not Mark's.

Sweet set up.

I am just finishing up my cable shift setup. It utilizes a boxster shifter. I do not like the cableshift setup due to the cable having to wrap around the trans especially if you want to run exhaust back there....

If you'd like you can check mine out as well. Unfortunately it won't be in the car for a couple months as I am finishing the interior first. I have a friend who is also using the design I came up with and his will be installed In a couple weeks.

I put a Subaru engine in my kit car and could not use cables as there was not enough room to get the cables in. The bends out of the firewall were too sharp
and the cable would not operate properly. So I came up with this arrangement.
Which uses the stock shifter

My new 3.2 will start with my modified 901 while I gather parts to do the 915. (seems I destroyed 2nd, 3rd, a couple sliders and synchros when a chunk of gear broke off on my 915) confused24.gif
I think he will be developing the 901 cable shifter on mine...

Why is the cableshift.com Subaru cable coming out straight up vertically like that? Seems like it would interfere with the underside of the trunk floor. Otherwise I might just buy it and be done with it.

good question

I have a design for the internal piece that will fit in the stock location. Just have to get some extra time to work on the transmission end. I know there are a few people who are eager to get this going. Probably wont see anything tangible until near the end of this year.

Somebody find me a couple good employees. smile.gif
