I've purchased a couple of different sets of main bearings for my engine rebuild, 1 set of Mahle and 1 set of Silverlines.....I received both with appear to be light scuffs and surface scratches on the bearing surfaces, apparently from the way they are packaged from the factories. The vendor I bought the Silverlines from says this is common and he has used them with no issues. What's the word on this, should I be concerned about this or not? Common sense tells me the bearing surfaces should be mark free and smooth.....

I suppose it all depends on how bad the surfaces are.

Can you post a picture?

Can you feel any ridges with your fingernail or are they just visual?

Mostly visual, I didn't feel much with my nail....I'm at work so photos could be posted later.

Didn't feel them much or not at all? Which is it?
They get visual scratches quite easily, lightly polish them with a clean soft white cloth they should disappear.

In the past I wouldn't use silverline, I might give them a second look now but I'd totally spec. them out.

I can just barely feel the scratch visible in the photo with my nail, it looks worse in the photo than it is. I was able to polish out the scuffs I mentioned. I haven't checked the specs yet but aside from the packaging, the Silverline's look pretty good. I'll have to check how they spec out though...
